The Outdoor Studies Department at RRCC is seeking a Outdoor Studies Lead to who will play a key role in supporting the behind‑the‑scenes planning and safety management for the Outdoor Education (OUT) and Park Ranger (PRA) programs. This position is ideal for students interested in expedition logistics, risk management, and the administrative side of outdoor programming. The role involves coordinating essential permits, safety documents, and logistics equipment that make outdoor academic experiences possible.

This position reports to the Faculty Chair. The work schedule for this position may vary, depending on department need and budget, at the Lakewood campus location. May require hours outside of normal work schedule. This is a work‑study position. This position may work up to 20 hours each week while class is in session an RRCC student, depending on class schedule, need, and budget availability.

Student employees are enrolled and contribute to a TIAA‑CREF account when enrolled in less than six credits.

This position offers hands‑on experience in the operational side of outdoor education, providing a behind‑the‑scenes look at how academic programs and field‑based courses are planned and executed. Students will gain practical skills in permitting, risk management, and expedition planning, while also developing professional competencies in communication, coordination, and equipment management. By collaborating with faculty, peers, and industry partners, students will deepen their understanding of the outdoor education field, expand their professional network, and enhance their readiness for careers in parks, recreation, and adventure‑based education.

• Must be an RRCC student and have been granted a work study award for the semester the student is seeking employment and maintain eligibility.
• Must be enrolled in at least half‑time (6 credit hours) and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress for all credit hours.

• Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook PowerPoint) and have advanced computer skills and experience with virtual meeting platforms (Zoom/Webex etc.).
• Must be reliable, punctual and have a good work ethic.
• Must be a self‑starter with time‑management skills and a strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work from campus (Lakewood campus location) and be eligible for student employment.
• Interest and experience with outdoor activities, ability to multi‑task, ability to work 15-20 hours per week, professional minded, hard‑working, and detail oriented.
