Data Center Senior Commissioning Engineer (Electrical) – Remote (US)
This role is responsible for commissioning data center electrical infrastructure for large‑scale projects (25MW+). The Engineer will manage commissioning plans, QA/QC programs, field testing, and documentation for all phases of a data center build.
Responsibilities- Develop and execute commissioning plans and specifications for electrical infrastructure.
- Perform factory testing, installation inspections, startup, pre‑functional, functional, acceptance, and integrated system testing (L1‑L5).
- Coordinate with general contractors, sub‑contractors, inspectors, AHJs, and other QA/QC stakeholders.
- Monitor, review, and execute large‑scale commissioning projects, ensuring contract compliance.
- Lead and schedule the electrical commissioning team, ensuring efficient execution of all field activities.
- Develop toolkits: test forms, scripts, SOPs, MOPs, and systems manuals.
- Utilize QA/QC and commissioning software (BIM
360, CxAlloy, Facility Grid, etc.) and perform vendor training. - Travel up to 50% of the time, including overnight trips and visits to client sites across the USA and Canada.
- Minimum 5 years of electrical engineering/field‑testing experience, 3+ years in commissioning for data center construction projects.
- Experience with 25+MW greenfield data center projects and commissioning of electric distribution and power systems.
- ABET accredited engineering or technology degree preferred; equivalent industry experience acceptable.
- Commissioning Professional Certification or equivalent; PE or PMP is an asset.
- Proficiency with electrical test equipment (PQM, IR cameras, NETA, hi‑pot, megger, etc.) and load bank testing.
- Strong knowledge of transformers, UPS, batteries, generators, switch gear, PDUs, EPMS, and related systems.
- Strong data‑management and communication skills, plus proficiency in MS Project, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe PDF, and Bluebeam.
- Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Travel frequently, including overnight stays; typically not exceeding two weeks at a time.
Estimated salary: $170,000 – $190,000 per year.
