The estimator’s responsibilities include determining how long each contracting job will last, researching market prices for project materials and equipment, and communicating with clients to determine the scope of each project. You should also be able to identify ways to continually improve cost‑estimating procedures to reduce inconsistencies between estimated and actual project costs.

To be successful as an electrical estimator, you should be detail-oriented and have sound knowledge of electrical codes. Ultimately, an exceptional Electrical Estimator should be adept at reading building plans and demonstrate outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preparing cost estimates for electrical construction projects, including labor, materials, and equipment.
  • Reviewing and interpreting blueprints, plans, and specifications to understand the scope of work and to determine project requirements.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant electrical codes and regulations.
  • Collaborating with project managers, engineers, and contractors to gather detailed information for estimates.
  • Preparing and submitting competitive proposals and bids to secure new projects.
  • Utilizing knowledge of the Electric Code (NEC) to ensure compliance in all projects.
  • Using software to improve the accuracy and efficiency of estimates.
  • Completing and submitting competitive project bids in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Regularly updating cost databases to accurately reflect fluctuating material and labor costs.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in electrical estimating or a combination of estimating and field experience.
  • Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software (Accubid, Count Fire, Bluebeam, Word) and advanced Excel.
  • Ability to interpret design intent and recognize incomplete or ambiguous documentation.
  • An in-depth understanding of electrical code compliance.
  • Exceptional skills in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate cost estimates and proposals.
  • Certification through the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE) or the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE) International is but not required.
  • Valid Driver's License.

This is an in-office position, Monday through Friday 9am - 5pm.

We are an equal opportunity employer; all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, marital status, age, disability, or any legally protected status.
