Job Description
WSP is seeking a Senior Lead Civil/Geotechnical Engineer to join our US Mine Waste team in Lakewood, CO (Fort Collins, CO also considered). The role involves designing and managing mine waste containment and tailings storage facilities worldwide.
Responsibilities- Lead multidisciplinary design of mine waste containment (tailings, waste rock, heap leach) including layout, site selection, geotechnical and hydrologic analyses, integration with other disciplines, and preparation of construction drawings and specs.
- Manage and execute mine waste geotechnical engineering projects: field investigations, lab testing, data interpretation, and analysis.
- Scope, direct and review complex geotechnical analyses—soil mechanics, stability, seepage, thermal modeling, deposition modeling, and dam/waste rock spoil run‑out analyses.
- Oversee projects from client‑approved scopes to high‑quality reports on time and within budget, with senior review.
- Contribute to client relationship and business development to grow business.
- Lead and coordinate multi‑disciplinary project teams.
- Support technical proposals and design packages for client needs.
- Manage junior engineers’ work.
- Stay current with latest geotechnical techniques and practices.
- Collaborate with planners and engineers on infrastructure projects funded by federal, state and local authorities.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making per WSP Code of Conduct.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or closely related discipline.
- More than 10 years of post‑education experience in mine waste engineering and geotechnical design.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
- Experience with tailings and/or heap leach facility design and management.
- Advanced knowledge of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering.
- Client liaison and business development skills.
- Project management experience with mid‑to‑large projects, including scoping, tracking hours and expenses.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
- High‑level self‑leadership, attention to detail, multi‑tasking and prioritization.
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight while guiding junior team members and adhering to QA/QC.
- Proficient in technical writing, office automation and design software (AutoCAD Civil 3D, SEEP/W, SLOPE/W, Slide, RS2, FLAC, PLAXIS, etc.).
- Critical thinking and problem‑solving: analyze test results, data, computations, statistics, and provide economical solutions.
- Coordination and directive ability to subcontractors and others to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
- Track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
- Availability to work schedules that may extend beyond a typical workweek and occasional travel.
- Master’s Degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or closely related field.

CompensationExpected Salary (Colorado only): $115,100 - $174,900. Compensation may vary based on education, experience, skills, geographic location, and internal equity.
