PositionOpto‑Mechanical Engineer – Optical Talent Center at Lockheed Martin Space. Provide design support for optical payloads and contribute to the development of passive, active, and directed energy optical payloads.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with senior engineers and contribute across the design team.
- Participate in the design and development of optical payloads.
- Present findings and technical information to a variety of audiences.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, optical sciences, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with standard design tools (CREO, NASTRAN/NX, MATLAB, Solid Works, CATIA, ZEMAX, Python, or other relevant assets).
- Familiarity with specification development, vendor interface, parts selection, and/or configuration control.
- U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a Top Secret security clearance.
- At least 2 years of experience developing mechanical solutions for optical payloads or working with precision mechanisms related to optical systems.
- Industry or laboratory experience with electro‑optical systems (remote sensing, astronomical telescopes, lasers, or laboratory optical diagnostic instrumentation).
- Experience with proposal writing.
- Cost estimation experience, including basis of estimate and cost volume/section support.
- Current background investigation supporting TS/SCI/Poly clearance.
Requires U.S. citizenship and a Top Secret clearance with a current investigation or CV date within the past five years. Possession of a TS/SCI/Poly clearance is preferred.

PayAnnual base salary ranges: $73,400 – $129,260 in California, Massachusetts, New York (excluding major metros), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington, or Washington DC; $84,300 – $146,165 in major metropolitan areas. Final salary determined by location, scope, and experience.
Work ConditionsOnsite, full‑time at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work schedule:
9 × 80 with every other Friday off. Potential for relocation.
