Overview

The full-time Environmental Scientist will be part of the Rocky Mountain Planning, Permitting, and Licensing Practice, reporting to the Lakewood, Colorado office. The position will have an emphasis in environmental planning and permitting for a variety of projects and clients in the areas of electric generation and transmission, mining, transportation, oil and gas development, and renewable energy generation. Field work involving travel and office work will be required for this position.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct biological field surveys which may include wetland/waterbody (in accordance with USACE requirements), habitat, or wildlife and plant species-specific surveys, and breeding bird and raptor surveys.
  • Collect accurate data in the field using GPS units and phone/tablet apps to locate work areas and map habitat and species observations.
  • Assist with data quality control and vegetation and habitat mapping.
  • Assist with preparing technical reports from field surveys such as wetland reports and threatened and endangered species habitat reports.
  • Review desktop data, research regulatory processes, and summarize findings.
  • Prepare desk desktop critical issues analysis report, memorandums, technical reports, and other environmental documents.
  • Assist with preparing agency consultation letters to agencies such as USFWS and State Wildlife and Fisheries.
  • Assist with preparing USACE Clean Water Act Section 404 permit applications.
  • Assist with preparing state and local land use applications.
  • Abide by Company policies and procedures.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in environmental science, natural resources, biology, ecology, or other similar environmental field is required. A Master's degree may be substituted for one year of experience.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills are mandatory along with the ability to maintain a positive attitude during year-round field work.
  • Able to work outdoors conducting biological fieldwork in remote areas and able to endure extreme weather conditions, biting insects, and dust/pollen. Must be comfortable using and operating a variety of field equipment such as handheld GPS units, electronic tablets, water quality instruments, 4WD and all-terrain vehicles, digital cameras, etc.
  • Able to travel and sometimes work for extended periods of time away from home.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and driving record acceptable to TRC's insurance carrier.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check and motor vehicle records check.

:
In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.
