Building Official – $3000 Bonus + Housing May be Available

From Foundation to Finish – Help Shape Eagle as Our Next Building Official

The Town of Eagle is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Building Official to lead our Building Department and help us maintain the safety, beauty, and integrity of our growing community. About the Role: As Building Official, you’ll be responsible for overseeing all building inspections, plan reviews, code compliance, and permit issuance. You’ll serve as the town’s go‑to expert on building safety and code enforcement while managing a small but mighty team.

This position is ideal for someone who thrives on variety—whether you’re inspecting commercial sites, advising contractors, presenting to town trustees, or reviewing new development plans, no two days are the same.

Hiring Range: $107,734 – $134,667 Annually

Hiring Bonus:$1,500 paid in first paycheck and $1,500 paid at 6‑month anniversary, based on performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the building department and supervise inspection staff and permit technicians
  • Perform detailed field and office inspections for residential and commercial properties
  • Review construction plans for compliance with local, state, and national codes
  • Investigate code violations and unsafe structures; issue corrective actions as needed
  • Work closely with the Community Development Team to ensure land use code compliance
  • Provide expert advice to contractors, homeowners, and public officials
  • Keep current with code changes and attend public meetings as required

What We’re Looking For:

We’re searching for a knowledgeable and community‑minded professional who is committed to safety, service, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Extensive code knowledge and the ability to interpret and apply complex building regulations
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to mentor staff, manage projects, and set clear expectations
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for collaborating with diverse stakeholders including contractors, engineers, homeowners, and elected officials
  • Problem‑solving abilities and sound judgment in high‑stakes situations
  • Attention to detail when conducting inspections, reviewing plans, and maintaining records
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast‑paced environment with seasonal demands
  • Technological proficiency in using inspection software, databases, and Microsoft Office tools
  • Commitment to public service and the values of ethical conduct, customer service, and team collaboration

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of four (4) years of building inspection experience
  • ICC certifications (plans examiner, inspector, plumbing, mechanical, or building official)
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Public Administration, or related field
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory motor vehicle record
  • Familiarity with municipal planning and development processes is a plus
