Data Analyst, Data Engineer
Location:
Remote | Must reside in AZ, CA, CO, FL, NY, VA, or TX.
Target Salary: $75,000 - $80,000 per year
The Data Analyst will be responsible for supporting all aspects of data collection, analysis, and visualization, with an emphasis on understanding departmental dynamics and their key performance indicators. This position requires strong programming capabilities, regulatory reporting expertise, quantitative and analytical modeling skills, strategic thinking, excellent presentation and communication abilities, and a demonstrated capacity to transform complex data into actionable insights that drive operational execution.
EssentialDuties + Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain regulatory compliance reports for IPEDS, CDHE, DOE, Title II, HLC, and NASAD, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to federal and state reporting requirements
- Design and build Python-based data pipelines and automated reporting solutions that extract, transform, and load data from multiple institutional systems
- Create and maintain interactive dashboards and self-service analytics in Power BI, with attention to modern design principles and user experience
- Modernize and optimize existing reporting infrastructure, including refactoring legacy code, improving data processing efficiency, and enhancing visual design
- Implement and follow software development best practices, including version control with Git/Git Hub, code documentation, peer review processes, and maintaining centralized code repositories
- Develop technical documentation, including data dictionaries, ETL process documentation, and system architecture diagrams
- Build creative and compelling metrics, reporting solutions, and self-service dashboards that enable data-driven decision-making across the institution
- Provide analysis and interpretation of academic, student services, and administrative data to support institutional effectiveness initiatives
- Manage ad hoc analyses and special projects related to emerging institutional priorities, risks, and opportunities
- Perform research tasks, including data collection, survey analysis, tracking, and reporting on special institutional research projects related to student access, success, and institutional effectiveness
- Develop analysis plans applying appropriate statistical techniques, predictive modeling, and data mining methodologies to answer institutional research questions
- Integrate disparate data sources and creatively leverage existing data to propose new metrics and present findings in compelling, actionable formats
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, or related field
- 3+ years of experience with Python programming for data analysis, automation, and ETL development
- 3+ years of experience developing dashboards and reports in Power BI
- Experience with software development best practices, including:
- Version control systems (Git/Git Hub) for source code management
- Code documentation and commenting standards
- Collaborative development workflows and code review processes
- Advanced SQL skills for complex querying, data manipulation, and database interaction
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis functions
- Data presentation skills to clearly and compellingly communicate findings to diverse audiences
- Experience with Anthology Student (formerly Campus Nexus/Campus Nexus Student) or similar Student Information Systems, including understanding of the data model and API integrations
- Experience with regulatory reporting in higher education (IPEDS, state reporting agencies, accreditation bodies)
- Familiarity with statistical analysis, regression modeling, forecasting, time series analysis, and predictive analytics
- Knowledge of higher education business processes and student lifecycle data
- Experience with API integrations and OData protocols
The work environment is a typical office environment which may include moderate noise, some evening or weekend hours, confined work spaces, fast work pace with unscheduled interruptions, the need to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and extensive time sitting and working with computers. Occasional overnight travel required.
