Summary
The Desktop Deployment Laborer will be a motivated, hands‑on entry‑level laborer to assist with the physical installation, cabling, and setup of desktop devices, network hardware, and Information Technology (IT) equipment. Unlike a mid‑level professional role, this position focuses strictly on the physical labor, basic installation tasks, and structured cabling under the direct guidance of senior technicians. You will not be responsible for network administration, cybersecurity compliance, or software configuration.
EssentialRequirements
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance for access to systems, facilities, equipment, and property.
- Experience in Government contracting preferred.
- Must possess standard technician hand tools (screwdrivers, cable strippers, pliers) to accomplish all installation‑related tasks relevant to desktop deployment.
- Ability to drive to local client sites within a 50‑mile radius of the home station.
- A strong desire to learn physical IT installation techniques and follow instructions closely.
- Unbox, position, and physically mount desktop computers (thick and thin clients), monitors, and basic IT gear.
- Connect clients, peripherals, and IT equipment assigned to the desk where work is performed.
- Install docking stations, keyboards, video, mouse (KVM) switches, display adapters, and high‑speed connectivity cables.
- Install and secure biometric peripherals, dual‑monitor arrays, brackets, VoIP network‑connected desktop phones, audio/visual (A/V) soundbars, webcams, and workstation peripherals.
- Record serial numbers for installed products.
- Assemble IT racks and assist with mounting servers and switches into designated spaces.
- Securely install basic AV equipment, including mounting screens, speakers, and video teleconferencing (VTC) hardware.
- Assist with logistics operations within the warehouse to support desktop deployment installation tasks as required.
- Perform trash removal of donnage and packing materials to keep the work area free and clear of debris.
- Pull, route, and neatly organize copper and fiber optic cables through trays, cable management pathways, and under floors.
- Customize cable dressing or loom desk cables with material onsite and route cables through cable routing protective coverings.
- Ensure desk cables are completely hidden and safe from tripping hazards.
- Mount under‑desk cable trays or J‑channels beneath desks to route and hide power bricks and peripheral cords.
- Terminate basic network cables and apply clear, accurate labels to all cables and ports as required.
- Install rack power strips (PDUs), route power cables, and assist with basic grounding tasks.
- Assist with physical lab organization, including moving floor tiles and installing grommets.
- Keep a clean, safe workspace and help maintain an accurate physical inventory of tools and equipment.
- Perform basic power‑on self‑tests (POST) to verify that installed equipment physically turns on.
Associate's degree in Computer Science and a minimum of 6 months of relevant experience in Information Technology installation tasks, or an equivalent combination of education/experience. Basic knowledge of computer hardware, Ethernet connections, and common hand tools. Familiarity with routing, pulling, and labeling structured cables (Cat6). No advanced IT security certifications required.
Physical DemandsWork is primarily performed in an office/jobsite setting, IT labs, and server rooms with exposure to moderate noise and dust. Regularly requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; twist at the waist; climb stairs; carry objects; speak and hear; stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; sit occasionally; use ladders and stairs; lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally;

Pay RangeEstimated pay range: $24 per hour to $30 per hour, contingent on location, skillset, and experience.
