As the Category Manager
- Information Technology (IT), you will execute and implement effective procurement and sourcing strategies for Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies’ Indirect Procurement IT category, representing approximately $46M in spend. The category may include specified areas of IT services, peripherals, hardware, software, telecom, and other categories as assigned. Develop short‑term and long‑term strategies that align with the company goals for reducing costs and meeting financial expectations.
Continuously improve the company’s purchasing practices by identifying and leading efforts to proactively consolidate category spend, manage supplier performance, mitigate risk, gain visibility to total spend and reduce cost. Perform spend analysis, market and supplier assessments to ensure best‑in‑class strategic sourcing strategies and category spend management.
- Demonstrate deep knowledge of the Technology category and ability to translate that knowledge into usable outcomes for TBCT.
- Develop a well‑documented Technology strategic sourcing plan from start to finish, including the development of RFIs and RFPs, collection of business requirements, supplier communication, criteria selection, and supplier negotiations in collaboration with cross‑functional teams.
- Execute sourcing strategies that support business objectives and improve supplier quality, total cost effectiveness, and enhance service levels, while reducing risk.
- Maintain a pipeline of key initiatives to drive savings opportunities.
- Actively seek ways to streamline business processes and add value by providing research and information on industry trends and best practices.
- Develop negotiation strategies, gain alignment from stakeholders, lead cross‑functional category‑based negotiation teams, and implement appropriate supplier risk analysis. Directly negotiate with suppliers.
- Use spend information and business knowledge to identify sourcing projects for individual sub‑categories and develop an overall plan.
- Manage category performance by adhering to internal savings goals and reviewing financial spend.
- Forge close working relationships throughout the company at all levels.
- Prepare business cases, including ROI models, and effectively present cost savings proposals to appropriate parties for approval and qualification.
- Ensure compliance with procurement policies, legal and financial requirements (e.g., JSOX), and supplier quality reviews.
- Act as a consultant to internal partners in the overall procurement process, i.e., strategic sourcing, negotiations, contracting, procurement operations, approvals, etc.
- Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in relevant IT procurement/sourcing category management in a large, multinational company.
- Experience successfully managing and supporting a similar scope and breadth of IT spend.
- Demonstrated sourcing experience leading RFx’s, conducting supplier management activities, and managing sourcing categories for indirect spend.
- Proficient at standard sourcing and category management concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Proven critical thinking, analyzing, and crafting solutions from financial data.
- Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of business requirements and category ownership, having created category strategies with sound analytics.
- Experience negotiating and executing contracts that mitigate risk and deliver value for the business.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and thrive in a continuous‑improvement environment.
- Outstanding verbal/written communication and presentation skills; ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.
- Strong analytical, process, and collaboration skills to resolve business problems; ability to think strategically.
