Auto Industry Division
Responsibilities- The Auto Industry Division is responsible for regulating the Motor Vehicle and Powersports Industry with emphasis on Education, Compliance, and Enforcement of applicable laws and regulations.
- The division focuses on three key components: educate and protect consumers; treat applicants and licensees fairly, professionally, courteously, and efficiently; foster an honest and healthy industry within Colorado to ensure consumer confidence in manufacture, distribution and sale of all vehicles within the division’s jurisdiction.
- Ensure licensees comply with Title 44, Article 20, parts 1 & 4 of the Colorado Revised Statutes and related rules of the Colorado Motor Vehicle Dealer Board, in addition to federal laws and regulations.
- Formulate effective licensing procedures, conduct quality background investigations of licensees and/or applicants, and perform complete enforcement investigations. When appropriate, issue licenses, refer licensing decisions to the Motor Vehicle Dealer Board, close investigations, or refer results to the Board or the local District Attorney for criminal filings.
- This position is located in the Lakewood office of the Auto Industry Division of the Specialized Business Group. It is a first-level supervisory role responsible for day-to-day operations of the Licensing Team, including first-level review of Motor Vehicle and Powersports license applications and the background investigations on those applications.
- Serves as the supervisor for the Licensing Team; schedules work, assigns tasks and licensing duties, manages leave, reviews and approves time sheets, and conducts performance plans and appraisals; assigns, reviews, and approves training requests.
- Reviews and assists in writing unit policies and procedures.
- Fielding complaints against staff, conducting internal investigations, and initiating corrective actions.
- Monitors schedules for direct reports and license functions to ensure timely task completion.
- Collaborates with applicants, licensees, and management to determine appropriate actions to achieve desired outcomes.
- Maintains positive relationships with licensees and resolves conflicts or directs to appropriate higher authority; communicates results to the Licensing and Background Investigation Manager, Deputy Director, and/or Division Director.
- Plans, coordinates, directs, tracks, and supervises subordinate employees performing licensing duties.
- Oversees day-to-day operations of the Licensing Team and provides guidance to direct reports, addressing issues daily.
