Overview

The Larimer County Department of Health and Environment is seeking a Communicable Disease Nurse to perform disease and outbreak investigations and support our Senior Public Health Nurse and Medical Assistant in our Tuberculosis program.

Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed case investigations for reportable enteric and vaccine‑preventable diseases.
  • Lead outbreak response and containment in high‑risk settings such as schools, childcare centers, and long‑term care facilities.
  • Coordinate comprehensive care for patients with active TB disease and latent TB infection, including medication monitoring, side effect assessment, home visits, and treatment completion.
  • Provide hands‑on clinical services: administer post‑exposure prophylaxis and vaccines, and collect biological specimens for diagnostic testing.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records of investigations and clinical encounters, entering data into state surveillance systems to track community health trends.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Licensed to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Colorado.
  • One year of experience providing health services as a registered nurse.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications by date of hire.
  • Valid driver’s license by date of hire.
  • Knowledge of disease processes, investigative interviewing techniques, infection control in congregate settings, clinical proficiency in specimen collection and immunization standards, TB case management expertise, and risk communication.
