The Colorado State Veterans Center at Homelake is a State-owned and operated skilled nursing facility and domiciliary dedicated to serving those who have served us. The purpose of this position is to provide nursing oversight, administrative oversight, and lead work over nursing personnel of three or more FTEs on a continuous basis, as well as clinical supervision of all nursing staff during a specific shift.
Additionally, as a Nurse II you can expect to:- Perform comprehensive admission and daily assessments to develop, implement, and coordinate individualized resident care plans.
- Monitor residents for changes or abnormalities in their health status and promptly report findings to physicians for intervention.
- Administer routine and specialized medical treatments—including IV therapy, venipuncture, and enteral nutritional support—and evaluate their effectiveness.
- Safely administer medications, rigorously observing resident rights, infection control standards, and actively monitoring for adverse reactions, interactions, or compliance issues.
- Maintain highly accurate and current documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR), including clinical assessments, progress notes, MARs, and TARs.
- Infection Control:
Implement strict infection control precautions, oversee proper waste and equipment management, and provide on-the-spot education to staff, residents, and visitors. - Evaluate daily workloads, prioritize assignments, and delegate tasks effectively among RNs, LPNs, and CNAs to ensure optimal resident safety and care coordination.
- Orient new employees and maximize staff productivity through ongoing individual coaching, immediate clinical feedback, and providing input for performance evaluations.
- Ensure all unit care aligns with established medical nursing standards, facility policies, and State of Colorado and VA regulations.
- Actively participate in QA and pharmacy work teams to establish best practice protocols, prevent complications, and drive continuous quality improvement.
- Collaborate with the Director of Nursing and House Supervisors to assure staff competencies are completed and promptly communicate process or policy changes to the team.
- Drive a State vehicle to conduct off-site assessments or transport residents as required.
- Maintain updated clinical skills, knowledge, and licensure competencies by regularly attending in-services, webinars, and continuing education workshops.
- Other Duties as assigned.
Current, valid unrestricted licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Colorado Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC)
- Current and valid BLS CPR Certification
Experience:

Two (2) years of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position
- Appropriate education will substitute for up to two (2) years of the required experience on a year-for-year basis
