THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION (9 MONTHS OR LESS) - PAYING $18.00-$20.00 PER HOUR

COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFE (CPW)

Our Mission is to perpetuate the wildlife resources of the state, to provide a quality state parks system, and to provide enjoyable and sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities that educate and inspire current and future generations to serve as active stewards of Colorado's natural resources.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

  • Location:
    Mancos State Park, southwestern Colorado
    – ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts; features include 750 surface acres of Jackson Gulch Reservoir, camping, yurts, trails, and water recreation options.
  • Limited Commission Park Rangers educate the public and patrol state parks. The work is conducted outside in all seasons and weather conditions. This is an unarmed law enforcement position (Title 33 Commission).
  • Specific duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Enforcing Title 33 of Colorado Revised Statutes and Colorado Parks and Wildlife Regulations
  • Issuing citations for violations
  • Conducting patrols of park areas by vehicle or on foot
  • Responding to emergencies
  • Resolving visitor complaints
  • Writing reports
  • Rangers may be required to appear in court to testify
  • Conducting inspections on boats and other watercraft for aquatic nuisance species
  • Additional duties may apply at lake, river, and backcountry recreation areas
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Assisting in all areas of daily park operations which may include:
    • Revenue/fee collection, verification, basic accounting, and deposits
    • Visitor services operations at the Visitor Center
    • General park or facility maintenance (restrooms, campsites, yurts, picnic areas, trails, etc.)
    • Leading or assisting with education and interpretive programs
  • This position is up to 40 hours per week and up to nine months in duration. School schedules MAY be accommodated. Housing may be available for one employee in the Park’s tiny home. Additionally, one Full Hook-Up RV site may be available for seasonal staff with their own RV.
Responsibilities
  • Support park operations as described above and perform related duties as requested by CPW staff.
Requirements
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must have a current and valid driver's license required for operating a state vehicle and acceptable driving record (will be verified as part of a comprehensive background check).
  • Important:
    Federal law prohibits illegal drugs. If you have used marijuana within the past 12 months and/or illegal drugs within the past 36 months you will be disqualified from the process.
  • If you have a felony or domestic violence conviction, or misdemeanors that prohibit POST certification for Colorado Peace Officer standards, you will be disqualified. Successful completion of a comprehensive background check is required.
  • Must be available to work various shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays; may involve working during inclement weather.
  • Outdoor physical work may require climbing in/out of vessels/vehicles and/or under trailers.
  • Uniform items may be provided; some items may need to be purchased at employee expense.
  • Must attend and successfully complete required Colorado State Park training (may include OC spray).
  • Must have or be able to attain valid First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Must work with limited supervision and be a team player.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal communication skills for excellent customer service.
  • Basic computer skills required (MS Office Suite, Google App Suite).
  • Preference may be given to applicants pursuing a Natural Resources degree or similar education.
