** Diagnoses, repairs and performs preventive maintenance on all city vehicles and equipment.  Works cooperatively with teammates and customers to help operating departments.  Keeps work area and common areas clean. The primary focus of this position will be on the Heavy Duty side of the shop. This work entails our Heavy Duty plow trucks and various other construction related equipment.

* * High School diploma or equivalent (trade school a bonus).
** Experience
* * Three years’ experience in all phases of automotive repair.
** Licensure/Certification/Registration
*** Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), or ability to obtain Class A CDL within 6 months of employment; good driving record.
* Current diesel opacity certification or ability to obtain diesel opacity certification within 6 months of employment.
* Current ASE certified or ability to obtain minimum two ASE certifications with 12 months of employment.#

Preferred Qualifications
* Ideal candidates will have documented experience in heavy duty equipment repair.
* MS Office experience, FASTER fleet maintenance software experience preferred.
* Knowledge and familiarity with various diagnostic software systems.

**** MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** (

*** Diagnoses, repairs and performs routine preventive maintenance on equipment and vehicles including, but not limited to, police cars and light duty cars and trucks.
* This position is also required to work snow shifts as necessary, which requires some repair skills on heavy duty snow removal equipment.
* May prepare new City vehicles for use by installing radios and other electrical equipment.
* Maintains shop tools and equipment in good working order.
* Assists in training new employees in the safe and proper use of shop equipment
* Must provide complete set of diagnostic and repair tools.
* Must maintain and utilize City-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when conducting activities where the employee is exposed to risks above those encountered in a traditional office setting.  If injured on-the-job due to failure to utilize PPE a safety violation can be taken.
* In absence of supervisor, may have to schedule work for customers.
* May have to order automotive parts as necessary.
* Maintains safe, clean work area.
* Requires regular and prompt attendance.
