HIRING RANGE: $31.85 - $35.39/hour Under minimal supervision, installs, maintains and inventories traffic signs and markings within the City of Lakewood. Keeps records on activities performed. Fabricates traffic signs. Responsible for tracking materials used; provides information to supervisor; assists in traffic marking operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Uses personal computer to manufacture traffic control signs.
Sets up safe work sites including proper use of cones, signs and traffic control.
Drives City vehicle and tows trailer.
Places guide markers for painting street lane lines.
Installs traffic control signs and pavement markings such as crosswalks and turn arrows.
Manages hazardous materials generated by painting operations.
Maintains inventory of field assets such as signs and markings and serves as resource on signs and marking material.
Performs keyboarding operations and uses personal computer to maintain databases.
Completes work logs of materials used, tasks completed, and crews performing tasks.
Performs pre and post trip inspections on equipment.
Operates and maintains equipment used for sign manufacturing and pavement marking such as small painting machines, personal computers, keyboards, and hand tools.
Assists in traffic marking operations on a routine basis.
Removes non-conforming traffic lines with a grinder.
Lays out and paints parking lots.
Assists in operation of highway paint machine.
Participates in weekly scheduled clean-up activities.
Works independently and as part of a team, following supervisor’s direction.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Must be able to interact with others in a positive manner.
Requires regular and prompt attendance.
Must maintain and utilize City-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when conducting activities where the employee is exposed to risks above those encountered in a traditional office setting. If injured on-the-job due to failure to utilize PPE a safety violation can be taken.
IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS Assists signal crews as requested by supervisor.
Performs pre and post trip checks on equipment.
Uses personal computer to manufacture traffic control signs.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Supervision Received Receives supervision from the Traffic Signs & Markings Supervisor or her/his designee.
Supervision Given Trains seasonal and variable employees.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
)
Education High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience One year experience with traffic line layout and sign installation as well as with equipment required to perform the essential job functions such as sign making equipment, small paint machines, over-the-road paint machine and pavement grinder.
Knowledge and experience with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
Licensure/Certification /Registration Valid driver’s license and a good driving record;
Colorado Class B commercial driver’s license within six months of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Some supervisory experience.
Ability to use spreadsheet and data-management software.
