Position:R&D Workstation Performance Engineer
This role is based in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Key Responsibilities- Understand the architectures of our Z workstation solutions from a performance and customer experience perspective, covering currently shipping platforms, products in development, and future product architectures.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional R&D organization and technical architects to ensure HP solutions deliver leadership performance and meet customer performance experience objectives.
- Innovate to identify opportunities to maximize system performance, improve the customer experience and differentiate HP workstation offerings.
- Use standard and proprietary benchmarks (e.g., consortia, application‑based and ISV‑developed) as well as leading applications used by customers to measure, analyze, and report on the performance of workstation solutions in all stages of development.
- Measure, analyze, compare, and report on the performance of competitive workstation solutions.
- Provide technical support for performance issues reported by our customers by working through our support & quality organization and, if asked, directly with customers.
- Triumph performance issues using both hardware and software skills, and develop regression tests to identify problems in advance.
- Create and execute performance test plans aligned with program objectives and release criteria.
- Learn how to install, configure, and run leading applications used by our customers to reproduce problems and analyze workload mix to inform future technical planning.
- Define and track performance metrics for future data‑driven decision making.
- Partner with marketing to provide performance data needed for product marketing launch, messaging, & claims.
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or significant equivalent experience.
- Minimum 4 years of system performance engineering experience working directly with leading‑edge x86 (PC / Server HW) architectures.
- In‑depth knowledge of at least one significant performance benchmark such as Cinebench, SPECcpu, SPEC workstation, Arnold Render, Geekbench, Autodesk, Passmark, etc.
- Proven ability to work effectively and lead in a cross‑functional environment.
- Proven ability to productively work with customers and partners.
- Experience managing complex technical issues and driving them to resolution.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- A love of technology and an insatiable curiosity to understand how things work.
- Not afraid to take "ownership" of problems; runs to problems.
- Optimistic "can‑do until proven otherwise" attitude.
- Capacity to anticipate and plan mitigations for potential problems and risks.
- Desire to excel in everything while prioritizing and making trade‑offs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language.
