High School Instrumental Music Teacher
Lakewood Public Schools is seeking a supportive, highly engaging, and student-centered High School Instrumental Music Teacher to provide instruction in band and orchestra courses for students in Grades 9-12.
Certification:
Valid New Jersey instructional certificate with the endorsement Teacher of Music (K-12)
Teaching Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality instrumental music instruction to students in Grades 9-12.
- Teach band and orchestra courses at varying levels of ability and experience.
- Direct curricular concert bands, orchestras, jazz ensembles, and other instrumental groups, as assigned within the teaching schedule.
- Develop students' technical skills, musical knowledge, performance abilities, and appreciation of music.
- Prepare students for concerts, school programs, and other curricular performances.
- Maintain a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that supports the needs of all students.
- Collaborate with administrators, faculty, families, and the school community to strengthen the instrumental music program.
- Perform other duties consistent with the teaching position, as assigned.
SEPARATE STIPEND POSITION: HIGH SCHOOL BAND DIRECTOR
The High School Band Director position is a separate extracurricular stipend position and is not automatically included with the High School Instrumental Music Teacher position. The Band Director stipend position will be posted separately and filled in accordance with the applicable provisions of the collective negotiations agreement between the Lakewood Board of Education and the Lakewood Education Association. The successful candidate for the teaching position may apply for the Band Director stipend position but is not guaranteed the appointment.
Band Director Stipend Responsibilities:
- Plan and supervise after-school rehearsals, performances, and related activities.
- Direct the marching band at football games, competitions, parades, and other school or community events.
- Coordinate performance schedules, student participation, transportation needs, and program logistics.
- Manage uniforms, equipment, instruments, repairs, inventory, and the applicable program budget.
- Ensure the proper care, maintenance, organization, and security of District-owned instruments and equipment.
- Perform other responsibilities associated with the Band Director stipend position.
