Seeking a mid to senior level Hydrology and Hydraulics Engineer to apply the principles of hydrology, hydraulics, and related engineering disciplines to design, analyze, review and manage natural water bodies and engineered systems within a large construction project in Northern New Jersey.

Core Responsibilities
  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic studies
    :
    Analyze rainfall, runoff, streamflow, and groundwater data to assess water availability and movement
  • Review water management systems
    :
    Review for compliance plans for flood control, stormwater management, irrigation, water supply, and wastewater treatment
  • Model and forecast
    :
    Use computer modeling such as HEC-RAS and Pond Pack to predict water supply/demand, flood risks, and the impacts of infrastructure projects
  • Create management plans
    :
    Prepare floodplain management, drought response, and water resource management plans
  • Oversee infrastructure construction
    :
    Supervise the design, construction, and maintenance of weirs, channels, diversions of water, ponds/reservoirs, and drainage systems
  • Compliance and regulation
    :
    Ensure projects meet environmental, safety, and legal standards for water use and protection
  • Risk assessment
    :
    Evaluate and mitigate risks from flooding, water contamination, and infrastructure failure
  • Collaborate
    :
    Work with civil engineers, environmental scientists, and other stakeholders to integrate water management into broader development plans
  • Reporting and communication
    :
    Prepare technical reports, presentations, and client updates
Governing Approvals
  • Government agencies including USACE, NJDEP, and FTA.
  • Land Use Permits
  • Water Quality Certificates
  • National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
Required

Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience
    :
    Minimum 10 years of experience progressively increasing responsibility.
  • Education
    :
    Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, or water resources engineering; often a master’s degree is preferred
  • Licensure
    :
    Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
  • Technical skills
    :
    Proficiency in hydrologic/hydraulic modeling software (e.g., HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS), Bentley Pond Pack, GIS, and data analysis tools.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities
    :
    Strong quantitative and spatial reasoning skills.
  • Communication skills
    :
    Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Knowledge of regulations
    :
    Familiarity with local, state, and federal water management laws
