Company Overview:

Altius Talent is partnering with a well-established freight forwarding and customs brokerage firm to identify an experienced Customs Entry Writer for their Cranford, NJ office. This is a great opportunity to join a collaborative brokerage team with a strong client base and a flexible hybrid working structure.

Position Overview:

The Customs Entry Writer will be responsible for preparing and submitting accurate customs entries for import shipments, ensuring full compliance with CBP regulations and client requirements. This role suits a detail-oriented brokerage professional who thrives in a fast-paced import environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and file customs entries (formal and informal) in accordance with CBP regulations
  • Classify goods using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS)
  • Review documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading) for accuracy prior to entry submission
  • Coordinate with CBP, PGAs, and internal operations teams to resolve entry discrepancies or holds
  • Process ISF filings and ensure timely compliance with AMS/ACE requirements
  • Monitor entry status and proactively address exams, holds, or documentation issues

    Maintain accurate records in the brokerage system (e.g., Cargo Wise or similar platform)
  • Support duty drawback, post-entry corrections, and protest filings as needed
  • Liaise with clients regarding entry status, documentation requests, and compliance questions
Key Skills &

Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of experience as a Customs Entry Writer or in a similar brokerage/import compliance role
  • Working knowledge of HTS classification, CBP regulations, and PGA requirements
  • Experience with customs entry software (Cargo Wise preferred)
  • Strong understanding of import documentation and compliance procedures
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) credential a plus, not required
