Production Scientist Job Description

The Production Scientist plays a key role in a fast-paced, quality-focused GMP manufacturing environment, performing hands-on laboratory work to assemble carriers, formulate custom reagents, and support the production of innovative diagnostic products. This position suits a science graduate with strong manual or automated pipetting skills, excellent attention to detail, and a willingness to follow detailed procedures while contributing to a collaborative, training-focused culture.

Responsibilities
  • Perform production activities in a quality-focused GMP manufacturing environment, ensuring all work meets established standards.
  • Assemble carriers using both manual and automated equipment, following defined procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Formulate custom bulk reagents using pipettes and balances, maintaining accuracy and precision in all measurements.
  • Fill reagent vials according to specifications and ensure proper labeling and handling.
  • Assemble carrier and reagent boxes, ensuring all components are complete and correctly packaged.
  • Follow detailed work instructions, forms, and procedures, and accurately complete batch records and related documentation.
  • Adhere to the manufacturing schedule, proactively communicate issues or concerns to management, and support timely completion of production runs.
  • Perform daily manufacturing maintenance tasks, including basic equipment checks, housekeeping, and organization of the work area.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels of materials and reagents as directed, and report shortages or discrepancies.
  • Train other team members on manufacturing procedures and best practices as needed.
  • Write and update manufacturing documentation, including work instructions and forms, to reflect current processes.
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned to support overall manufacturing operations.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline such as biology, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Strong manual and/or automated pipetting skills, with the ability to work accurately and efficiently.
  • Working knowledge of GMP or cGMP principles and their application in a manufacturing or laboratory setting.
  • Experience performing laboratory tasks using pipettes, balances, and related equipment.
  • High level of attention to detail with a strong focus on quality and accuracy.
  • Ability to follow detailed written work instructions, forms, and procedures consistently.
  • Capability to multi-task and remain effective in a very fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to follow direction and established processes while maintaining compliance.
  • Strong organizational skills to complete batch records and documentation accurately.
Additional

Skills & Qualifications
  • Background or coursework in biological sciences, biochemistry, or related scientific fields.
  • Experience working as a lab technician or in a laboratory-based production role.
  • Familiarity with GMP or cGMP manufacturing environments and quality systems.
  • Comfort working with automated equipment and laboratory instrumentation.
  • Strong communication skills to train others and collaborate effectively within the team.
  • Interest in learning reagent formulation and expanding technical skills through side-by-side training.

Work Environment
