About The Position

American Van Equipment is looking for an upfitter who is a skilled worker who modifies, installs, and equips vehicles or equipment to meet specific customer or operational needs. Upfitters are commonly employed in industries such as fleet services, utility trucks, commercial vans, and specialty transportation.

Job Description

Position Summary: The Upfitter is responsible for installing, modifying, and testing equipment, accessories, and components on vehicles according to customer specifications, engineering drawings, and safety standards.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Install vehicle accessories such as:
  • Shelving and storage systems
  • Lighting and electrical systems
  • Radios, warning lights
  • Toolboxes and ladder racks
  • Safety equipment
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work orders.
  • Perform electrical wiring, drilling, mounting, and fabrication tasks.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Inspect completed installations to ensure quality and compliance with specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and repair installation issues.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work area.
  • Document completed work and materials used.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience with automotive, electrical, mechanical, or fabrication work preferred.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and technical drawings.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment (often 50 pounds or more).

Work Environment
