Construction Instructor

Job Purpose

The Construction Instructor will manage the NCCER Certification process of students in the construction pathway, adhering to requirements for certifications such as OSHA 10 and NCCER Core. The instructor maintains records, registers students, files requirements, and ensures certification completion. Additionally, the instructor provides modeling and instruction of employability and soft skills, and collaborates with the school team for effective communication.

• Use approved curricula, teach workplace safety, and award OSHA 10 Basic Safety certification.
• Implement construction laboratory safety plan and adhere to procedures for reporting accidents and injuries.
• Develop and coordinate a pacing guide aligned with NCCER curricula to ensure adequate time for participants to achieve industry credentials.
• Create a supportive and optimistic learning environment in which participants are actively engaged.
• Ensure participants engage in functional and appropriate construction activities incorporating multiple instructional methodologies.
• Coordinate with academic teachers to incorporate learning accommodations appropriately.
• Support participants in developing construction craft skills with emphasis on employability skills such as teamwork, communication, accountability, and resiliency.
• Incorporate critical thinking and functional academics through project‑based and/or problem‑based learning opportunities.
• Maintain proactive, open, and effective communication with other school team members.
• Mentor, coach, and advise students on workforce skills needed to gain employment, using personal experience to inspire leadership and optimism.
• Assist in building relationships with construction partners in coordination with the School Director, Director of Career‑Technical Education, and Placement Specialist.
• Provide required performance reports; participate in relevant meetings, workshops, and/or committees.
• Maintain a detailed tracking system and complete all certification steps to ensure timely credentialing of participants.

• Maintain and provide weekly updates on the Progress Tracker for each credential.
• Ensure completion of Credit Flex Plans to award available academic credits.
• Ensure students are enrolled in the correct DASL course.
• Complete steps for students to take the certification test and provide copies of certifications to the Placement Specialist.
• Assist in securing Workforce Experience (WEX) opportunities and ensure classroom learning supports WEX placements.
• Participate in Quarterly Workforce Advisory Committee as needed.
• Actively assist in recruitment and retention of students, improving attendance and certification completion.

• No restrictions in securing an Ohio Department of Education vocational teacher license or permit.

• Experience preferred: minimum 5 years in construction or related field; proficiency with NCCER preferred.
• Education preferred:
  High School Diploma or equivalent.

This job is performed in a craft classroom/laboratory environment and may include in‑field learning opportunities.

Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, operating machines, hand tools, and power tools as required in a construction/craft learning environment.

Occasional, minimal guidance following established work methods.
