Key Responsibilities

  • Assign team members to activities, ensuring staff coverage meets customer demands and redeploying when necessary to support needs throughout the department.
  • May participate in interviews and provide input into selection decisions for new associates in assigned area.
  • Connect with the team daily to understand challenges and elevate issues when necessary.
  • Provide open and timely feedback and performance coaching to team members, redirecting problematic or ineffective behavior when necessary; partner with ASM when formal disciplinary action is needed.
  • Encourage team to share ideas and best practices for delivering outstanding customer service and accomplishing support activities.
  • Empower others to make decisions while providing guidance when necessary.
  • Provide recognition for accomplishing goals and demonstrating effective behaviors.
  • Foster an environment of associate growth and development, ensuring confidence and competence through coaching and regular performance feedback.
  • Identify associate‐relations concerns and take appropriate action, including escalation to senior management or HR.
  • Empower and coach team to follow proper processes and achieve operational efficiencies for SMART customer service and sales.
  • Monitor and drive team toward key operational performance metrics.
  • Identify barriers to operational processes or the customer experience and implement solutions in a timely manner.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to unexpected events (e.g., callouts/no‑shows, unscheduled deliveries) by reprioritizing tasks.
  • Monitor store power equipment use, ensuring it operates safely and address violations with associates.
  • Maintain a focus on safety, security and shrink prevention by securing doors and gates, reporting shoplifting and theft signs, and maintaining inventory and shrink budget integrity.
  • Conduct daily safety reviews, noting hazards, keeping store areas clean and organized, and monitoring potential theft or security risks.
  • Recommend operational strategies to reduce unproductive time, waste or product loss and encourage the team to adopt them.
  • Analyze operational activities and determine ways to reduce impact on the customer.
  • Seek performance feedback from others and pursue self‑development opportunities.
  • Proactively build and maintain collaborative relationships with cross‑functional partners.
  • Set an example by adapting quickly and effectively to work challenges and organizational change.
  • Oversee and drive efficiencies in front‑end and fulfillment activities (e.g., checkouts, returns, overrides, till audits, Pro fulfillment, Pickup in‑store, install, delivery picking, staging, and fulfilling).
  • Drive excellent customer service by ensuring the front‑end support team greets customers, answers phones, responds to inquiries, and proactively addresses concerns.
  • Ensure appropriate headcount is allocated based on customer demand, including Pro, Install, Delivery, and Pickup in‑store functions for fulfillment and allocations in each checkout and administrative function for front end.
  • Research shortages or overages, deposit cash in the bank, and handle register pulls and loans.
  • Monitor Customer Service desk activity and provide support when needed.
  • Validate readiness of all delivery orders and communications.
  • Research and monitor short picks.
  • Validate that all orders are picked and staged on time.
  • Cross‑functionally train in other store areas to deliver the best customer service.
  • Receive and direct calls appropriately to meet customer and associate needs.
  • Conduct walks of fulfillment area, bays, or inventory to ensure clean and safe areas.
  • Pull, prepare, inspect, stage, and load merchandise for customers, contractors, and delivery truck orders according to invoice or loading ticket, using power equipment as needed.
  • Validate items being carried in and out of the store when appropriate.
  • In addition to the above responsibilities, this individual is held accountable for other duties as assigned.
  • Provide full leadership over the store as Manager‑on‑Duty, driving engagement, customer service, staffing and operational efficiency.
