Overview

Pierce Transit is an independent municipal organization, dedicated to fulfilling the mission of improving people's quality of life by providing safe, reliable, innovative, and useful transportation services that are locally based and regionally connected. That is the purpose of this role. Pierce Transit is seeking a dedicated and skilled Security and Access Technician to support the installation, maintenance, and repair of video surveillance, access control, and intrusion detection systems.

This is a primarily field-based position, with work performed across Pierce Transit properties—including our headquarters, transit centers, and park-and-ride facilities throughout Pierce County.

In this role, you will apply your knowledge of video surveillance, access control, and intrusion detection systems to support installation, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management of our security infrastructure, primarily using Genetec-, Axis-, and Bosch-based hardware. You will work closely with the Security and Access Administrator, receiving guidance on complex tasks while gaining independence as your proficiency grows. Responsibilities
  • Installs, programs, tests, repairs, and services Pierce Transit video surveillance, access control, and electronic security systems as directed.
  • Provides physical and technical support for troubleshooting, in-house installations, and lifecycle replacement of video surveillance, access control, electronic security equipment, and associated door hardware.
  • Operates systems on prescribed intervals to test equipment, commissions new systems, analyzes performance, and proactively identifies malfunctions.
  • Assists in maintaining and creating documents and files related to completed projects and current buildings and systems.
  • Assists in replacement and installation of low voltage cabling infrastructure.
  • Assists in the issuance and replacement of credentials, parking permits, and keys.
  • Maintains ability to operate job-related vehicle.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work area.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Required:

    • Must be at least eighteen (18) years old.
    • Completion of a two (2) year degree in electronics engineering or equivalent certified Armed Forces technical training or two (2) years’ experience in low voltage electronics.

    Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be reviewed to ensure the applicant can perform the essential functions of the job.

    Desired
    • Washington EL-06 Journeyman or experienced apprentice
    • Experience with Genetec Omnicast and Synergis
    • Experience with Bosch Security Systems
    • Experience with Axis Cameras
    Licensing, Certifications, & Other Requirements
    • Must possess a valid Washington State driver license at time of application, with maintenance thereafter.
    • Must pass a criminal justice information services (CJIS) security background check.
    Knowledge
    • National Electrical Code (NEC), Revised Code of Washington (RCW), electrical theory, and basic calculations.
    • Basic hand and power tools including but not limited to electrical testing equipment and hand-held electronic devices.
    • Basic computer networking principles. Possess knowledge of basic programming and technologies related to security and other low voltage systems.
    Skills and Abilities
    • Use of a variety of power/manual/hand tools, and equipment standard to the electrical and low voltage trades;
    • Read and interpret electronic schematic diagrams and construction drawings;
    • Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing;
    • Work as a team with other employees in a directed work team environment;
    • Read and follow wiring schematics;
    • Work in all working conditions;
    • Drive all job related vehicles and maintain Washington State driver license with acceptable record, as required;
    • Plan and organize work activity to meet departmental objective.
    Physical Requirements
    • Requires climbing, standing, bending, and lifting heavy objects and working in confined and enclosed spaces.
