The Child Study & Treatment Center (CSTC) has an opportunity for a Psychiatric Youth Counselor 4 (supervisor) to join our team. You'll supervise a team of counselors and support staff who are committed to working with children, families, and communities to promote effective treatment and growth in a nurturing environment. You'll implement, create, and coach a cohesive team of staff that understands and consistently implements the cottage milieu program.

You'll supervise, manage, mentor, and handle the day-to-day operations of a busy unit.

Please note:

• The anticipated shift is 1:30pm - 12:00am Wednesday - Saturday (4x10) (Sun/Mon/Tues off).
• This position will be located in Camano Cottage.
• Evening and Night shifts include a shift differential in addition to the standard compensation rate.
• Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.
• Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs.

Some of what you'll do:

• Assist in conducting interviews, reviewing applicants' credentials, and recommending hires.
• Monitor and coach, provide guidance, and promote teamwork and employee growth.
• Evaluate and manage employee performance, prepare performance assessments, and provide coaching, recognition, counseling, and corrective action as necessary.
• Plan and prioritize workloads by assigning, reviewing, and evaluating work on each shift to the assigned cottage.
• Facilitate participation of assigned staff in meeting all mandatory educational requirements and assist the cottage Program Director with conducting weekly staff inter-shift meetings.
• Manage staff timecards and leave, and plan a monthly cottage schedule to ensure minimum staffing levels.
• Coordinate services between the cottage and other departments.
• Participate in continuing education activities to maintain current knowledge of CSTC policies and facility practices and to increase job skills and abilities.
• Ensure staff are aware of and implement individual and milieu treatment programs.
• Model therapeutic and developmentally appropriate patient interactions.
• Provide direct care of patients and maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic milieu in which patients will receive treatment; implement the cottage program and individualized behavioral plans.
• Encourage, supervise, and participate with patients in recreation, social, and therapeutic activities.
• Initiate prompt interventions in response to behavioral escalations; prevent patients from injuring themselves or others.
• Respond to patient grievances, investigate and attempt to resolve parent/community concerns/complaints, and provide support and informal training to patient families.

Who we are looking for:
Those with a bachelor's degree with an emphasis in Social Sciences, Education, Recreation, Psychology, or a related field and two years of social service experience. Or One year of work experience as a Psychiatric Youth Counselor 3. Or Equivalent education/experience. (An Agency Affiliated Counselor Credential through the Department of Health is required within 60 days of hire).

Knowledge of normal and abnormal growth and development, dynamics of interpersonal relationships, behavioral health concepts, and community resources.
