Student Services Coordinator

Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Student Services, the Student Services Social Worker provides district wide leadership, consultation, and professional expertise in the implementation of Student Services programs that support educational access, educational stability, and student well-being. The position serves as the district's lead social work professional and provides consultation, systems coordination, program development, and direct intervention for students and families experiencing complex attendance, housing, child welfare, and educational stability challenges.

The Student Services Social Worker leads district implementation of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education and Foster Care programs, develops district procedures, provides professional learning, builds the capacity of school staff, and facilitates multidisciplinary collaboration to ensure compliance with federal and state requirements. The position partners with schools, families, district departments, Tribal governments, and community organizations while providing direct social work services for students requiring intensive educational support.

District Support & Professional Consultation

  • Serve as the district's lead social work professional and subject matter expert on educational stability, attendance, foster care, and complex student supports.
  • Provide consultation and technical assistance to administrators, counselors, attendance teams, registrars, and Student Services staff.
  • Develop district procedures, guidance documents, and best practices.
  • Build staff capacity through coaching, consultation, and professional learning.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary planning and MTSS implementation.

McKinney-Vento Program Support

  • Lead district implementation of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.
  • Interpret federal and state requirements regarding eligibility, educational stability, dispute resolution, and compliance.
  • Provide consultation on complex eligibility determinations and student situations.
  • Develop district guidance, procedures, and training materials.
  • Monitor compliance, analyze district wide data, and recommend program improvements.
  • Collaborate with the Student Services Coordinator regarding unaccompanied youth while providing direct intervention for students and families experiencing complex housing instability.

Foster Care Program Support

  • Serve as the district lead for ESSA Foster Care implementation.
  • Lead Best Interest Determination (BID) meetings with DCYF, caregivers, educational decision makers, transportation staff, attorneys, CASA volunteers, and school personnel.
  • Coordinate educational stability planning and transportation.
  • Develop procedures, provide staff training, and monitor compliance and program outcomes.

Complex Student & Family Support

  • Conduct comprehensive needs assessments and coordinate wraparound educational supports.
  • Conduct home visits as appropriate to support educational access and stability.
  • Coordinate referrals to community resources and public agencies.
  • Assist schools in resolving complex attendance, enrollment, and educational stability concerns.

Professional Learning & Capacity Building

  • Design and deliver district wide professional development related to McKinney-Vento, Foster Care, educational stability, and student support systems.
  • Develop training resources and mentor district staff.

Community Systems Leadership

  • Lead collaboration with DCYF, housing agencies, Tribal organizations, juvenile courts, and community partners.
  • Represent the district on regional and state collaborative groups.

Program Leadership & Continuous Improvement

  • Evaluate program effectiveness using district data.
  • Support grants, strategic planning, compliance reporting, and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations for district leadership.

Perform other duties as assigned.
