We are currently recruiting reliable and conscientious Service Station Attendants to join the Fleet Maintenance team. The position is fast‑paced and dynamic, with no two shifts ever being the same. Applicants should have a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a high level of safety-mindedness. This full‑time, benefited position will be scheduled based on seniority (likely second or third shift initially).
Shift differential pay applies as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.
- Assist mechanics or independently perform light preventative maintenance repairs and services.
- Fill fuel tanks with gasoline, diesel, compressed natural gas (CNG), or propane; fill diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) tanks as needed.
- Check engine and transmission oil, coolant, and power steering fluid levels.
- Sweep inside and wash both interior and exterior of vehicles; remove and replace interior vehicle seats.
- Remove and empty cash boxes; rotate and change vehicle tires as needed.
- Perform minor repairs such as replacing light bulbs, adjusting brakes, and servicing batteries.
- May be required to make coach changes throughout the Pierce Transit service area.
- Notify the Fleet Assistant Manager of abnormal conditions such as excessive usage of oils or coolant, air leaks, uneven braking or hard steering.
- Enter work order data on Agency personal computers and handwritten work orders.
- Report all damage or vandalism of vehicles to the Fleet Assistant Manager.
- Maintain regular attendance and a clean, orderly work area.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
- High school graduation or equivalent; two years’ experience cleaning and/or performing routine care on automobiles or other equipment, or completion of an accredited automotive program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- At least 18 years old.
- Current Pierce Transit employee who completed the Service Station In‑Training program is eligible for work‑up.
- Valid Washington State driver license at time of application, maintained thereafter.
- Effective Class B Commercial License Permit (CLP) with air brake and intrastate passenger endorsement prior to hire.
- Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with air brake and passenger endorsement within 90 days of hire, maintained thereafter; acceptable driving record required.
- Successful completion of a pre‑employment background check, pre‑employment medical exam, physical ability test, and drug and alcohol screening.
- Safety‑sensitive position; subject to agency drug and alcohol program and federal testing requirements.
- Knowledge of parts, tools, and equipment used in servicing automotive and diesel equipment.
- Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions in automotive repair shops.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to work as part of a team in a directed work environment.
- Ability to perform computerized work order methods and procedures.
- Ability to pass federally required drug and alcohol testing; drive all job‑related vehicles and maintain valid WA State driver license and intrastate CDL.
- Requires climbing, standing, bending, and lifting heavy objects; working in confined and enclosed spaces.
- Must handle objects up to 50 pounds; work outdoors in any weather and with soaps and cleaning agents.
- Must be willing to work any shift (swing shift, graveyard, and/or weekends likely).
- Exposure to fumes, dust, vibration, high noise levels (requires ear protection), high voltage equipment, and working near moving parts of heavy machinery.
- Work includes both indoor and outdoor environments.
