Job Summary:

The Controller serves as the College s Chief Accounting Officer and provides strategic and operational leadership for all accounting, financial reporting, treasury, payroll accounting, grants accounting, internal controls, and compliance functions. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Administrative Services and Institutional Effectiveness, the Controller oversees the daily operations of the Business Office, supervising accounting and finance staff responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, cashiering, grants accounting, and general ledger operations.

The position plays a critical leadership role in ensuring the integrity of the College s financial operations while supporting a balanced annual operating budget, multiple funding sources, capital projects, auxiliary enterprises, and numerous federal, state, local, and private grants. The position makes recommendations regarding institutional financial policy, accounting procedures, cash management practices, and operational efficiencies.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the College s Chief Accounting Officer and oversee all accounting, financial reporting, and fiscal operations.
  • The Controller provides leadership for the College s Business Office and supervises accounting work and personnel including general accounting, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, cashiering, grants accounting, fixed assets, Capital Accounting
  • The Controller works collaboratively with Human Resources, Financial Aid, Student Services, Academic Affairs, the Lamar Community College Foundation, and the Colorado Community College System.
  • Direct the functions of general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cashiering, grants accounting, fixed assets, and capital construction accounting.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, GASB, applicable NACUBO accounting guidance and best practices, Colorado Fiscal Rules, State Board Policies, Colorado Community College System policies, federal regulations including Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), and all other applicable accounting standards.
  • Prepare and oversee monthly, annual, and ad hoc financial reports, financial statements, and year-end closing activities.
  • Plan, coordinate, and serve as the College s primary liaison for annual financial statement audits, federal Single Audits, state compliance reviews, grant audits, and other financial examinations. Coordinate corrective action plans and monitor implementation of audit recommendations.
  • Oversee accounting and compliance for grants, contracts, and restricted funds, ensuring accurate reporting and stewardship of resources.
  • Establish and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard institutional assets, ensure accurate financial reporting, and mitigate risk.
  • Support budget development, financial forecasting, analysis, and monitoring in collaboration with the Vice President of Administrative Services.
