Job Description- POSITION: MOTOR VEHICLE TECHNICIAN
- REPORTS TO: COUNTY CLERK
- DEPARTMENT: COUNTY CLERK'S OFFICE
- FSLA STATUS: NON‑EXEMPT
- SALARY: $16.50 – $17.50

Performs a variety of difficult and responsible duties relating to the department, processes transaction involving numerous steps, such as review of documents, determination of regulatory or procedural compliance, verification of data, data entry, computation, collection of fees, chronicle, completion, and indexing of affiliated forms. Deals with the general public in person, by telephone, by letter, and performs specialized and independent functions.
Is expected to assist other staff whenever they need to, so that customer service is at the highest quality and perform any other tasks or duties assigned by the County Clerk or Supervisor.
Receives general direction from County Clerk and/or Deputy County Clerk and exercises own judgment and initiative in the accomplishment of most tasks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Has working knowledge of motor vehicle laws and regulations and must keep up with these laws and regulations as they change CONSTANTLY.
- Determines legality and acceptability of documents submitted for application for Colorado automobile titles; issues of titles, license plates/tabs.
- Gives technical information to the public by phone and in person.
- Files, maintains, and monitors hard copies of motor vehicle transactions.
- Works with the postage machine on a daily basis.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Reviews marriage applicant information, verify identifications and issues marriage license.
- Has a working knowledge of Recording Department functions.
- Registers people to vote; assists with elections as needed.
- Has a working knowledge of Election Department functions.
- Working knowledge of state link computer system – hardware, software, programs and procedures
- Office machines: computers, printer, copiers, fax machine, typewriter, calculator, and cash register
- Software:
State motor vehicle system, SCORE voter registration system, spreadsheet and word processing, knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Office software - Extensive knowledge of English language, oral and written
- Knowledge of license plate and tab inventory; order plates as needed
- Knowledge of county owned vehicle titles and registration records
- Knowledge of 2% rental records for Vehicle Rentals/SMM equipment
- Knowledge of extracts, prints and mails registration renewal cards monthly
- Proficiency in office management procedure
- Effectively interact with internal staff, citizens, and both state and federal government agencies
- Analyze various and multiple transactions and procedures and give positive direction
- Deal effectively and courteously with fellow employees and with the general public
- Receive and follow written and oral instruction – implement and convey to other employees
- Accurately make cash change and balance daily reports
- Operate general office equipment, personal computer, and a motor vehicle system
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Prior office experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and ability.
- Considerable knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, departmental policies, and the ability to write clear and concise memos and letters.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time; hear, see, bend, lift and climb stairs. Must have sufficient range of motion in hands, arms, and shoulders to be able to utilize a computer keyboard and mouse. Must be able to occasionally lift weight, i.e., files, large record books, computer paper, office supplies, and etc.
