POSITION TITLE:
SPECIAL EDUCATION/RESOURCE SPECIALIST PROGRAM CLASS DEFINITION:
Positions in this class are characterized by their association with direct instruction process for students in the special education classroom. Positions within this class require the ability to work with special needs children in the classroom or in consultation with the general education teacher, under the general supervision of the site or service administrator. Within this class, levels are differentiated by the credentials, degree of skills and expertise required to perform successfully within the assignment.
POSITION DEFINITION:
Under general supervision to provide instruction to special needs students within credential authorized service; supervise the classroom and playground activities of special needs students; plan as necessary with other staff members for the effective delivery of instruction for special needs students; maintain records to demonstrate and evaluate special needs students educational/social/emotional progress; work with the staff members, parents and other specialists necessary to develop the Individual Educational Plan of each assigned students, and to do related work as required.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
• Provide daily instruction to students in authorized and assigned subject areas
• Provide for adequate planning for students' instructional programs both long and short term
• Provide an orderly, functional and attractive learning environment for students
• Implement the I.E.P. of each student in consultation with the general education teacher(s)
• Work cooperatively with others in the school to provide for coordinated services for students
• Maintain necessary records to evaluate student learning and periodically report that progress to the parent/student/supervisor
• Maintain regular contact with the parents/guardians about student progress
• Conduct I.E.P. meetings as necessary or required
• Maintain high level of skill and expertise in the subject matters assigned to teacher and in strategies by which to teach those subjects
• Maintain high level of skill in working with students with specific learning disabilities and in the process of assisting general education teachers to work with identified students
• Implement district and school policies regarding the instruction of students
• Maintain a high level of expertise in the area of special needs of disabled students
• Provide assessment for students in accordance with policies and laws relating to this area EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Education and Experience:
Required is a B.A./B.S. degree from an accredited college or university and a teaching credential authorizing service as a Resource Specialist Program teacher. Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of and the ability to apply current teaching techniques in a variety of areas, strong subject matter knowledge, laws and applicable sections of Federal rules and regulations, State Education Code and District and school policies, as well as the Board's goals and objectives. The abilities to relate in a positive manner with students, to discipline students fairly and firmly, to communicate in an effective manner with parents, students and other professionals, understand and follow both oral and written directions, work within an established schedule, maintain and interpret records, work confidentially, read, interpret and follow regulations, policies and procedures and work cooperatively with others in the school and district setting.
Licenses and other Requirements:
Valid child/adult CPR certificate, training in NCPI PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
• Visual capability to read handwritten or typed documents and the display screen of various office equipment and machines
• Ability to conduct verbal conversation in English
• Able to hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels)
• Able to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, walk
• Able to stand on hard flooring for sustained periods of time
• Able to walk on hard flooring for sustained periods of time
