Overview
The Be A Mentor Program pairs caring adult volunteers from the community with youth in one-to-one relationships. Mentors provide friendship, answer questions, and offer guidance. Mentors come from diverse backgrounds and volunteer their time to be a caring friend and role model to a youth. They serve as a resource and advocate. The purpose of the mentoring relationship is to help youth develop their full potential, both in and outside of the classroom.
Responsibilities- Spend time with a mentee in-person, building a trusting relationship through conversations, activities, and guidance.
- Support youth by answering questions, encouraging learning, and modeling positive behaviors.
- Engage in activities with the mentee (e.g., sports, homework help, trying new experiences) with flexibility and creativity.
- Caring adults 21 or over who have reliable access to a car.
- Empathetic, a good listener, and committed to making a difference in a young person’s life.
- A commitment of 1 hour per week for a full year.
All mentors are required to complete a background check and training. Our mentoring coordinator will provide support throughout the program. Many of the youth we serve have never had an adult listen and care for them until they get a mentor. Mentoring can make a significant difference in a child’s life, and we invite you to commit to helping local kids.
