Position: Adjunct Coaching (Head Coach Women's Track and Field) Non-Instructional

Overview

Adjunct Instructors are temporary, part-time faculty. Antelope Valley College invites applications for our applicant pool for the Coaching discipline.

Responsibilities
  • Coaching the Varsity Women’s Track and Field teams and all aspects of the Track and Field program.
  • Coaching and administering all aspects of the Women’s Intercollegiate Track and Field program.
  • Selecting, training, and supervising assistant coaching and meet operations staff.
  • Motivating and guiding student‑athletes to achieve academic success and assisting in their matriculation to the four‑year level and/or vocational training goals.
  • Evaluating, planning, and coordinating all programs relevant to the success of student‑athletes in the Intercollegiate Track and Field program.
  • Overseeing preparation of the schedule.
  • Monitoring and staying within the assigned budget.
  • Engaging in approved fundraising activities to supplement the program budget.
  • Assisting in the identification, procurement, and inventory of supplies and equipment for the Intercollegiate Women’s Track and Field programs.
  • Ensuring all facilities and modes of transportation are used safely and maintained properly.
  • Promoting the Intercollegiate Women’s Track and Field programs within the community and recruiting areas through recruiting, public appearances, promotional efforts, community service, camps, clinics, etc.
  • Observing all Antelope Valley College District (AVCD) Board Policies and Procedures.
  • Complying with all California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A), Western State Conference, and college rules, regulations, and policies.
Minimum Qualifications

Any bachelor’s degree or higher AND two years of professional experience, OR any associate degree AND six years of professional experience.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Successful experience in coaching at the high school level or higher.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit.
  • Demonstrated ability in managing the various aspects of a track and field program, including academic advisement, budget, coaching, compliance, evaluation, facilities, fundraising, marketing, operations, scheduling, and student support.
  • Ability to plan and direct conditioning, training, practice, meet, and behavioral conduct of all student‑athletes in the program.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, develop, and promote an Intercollegiate Track and Field program.
  • Evidence of continued professional development or involvement in track and field.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse cultures and languages and those with disabilities.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others in a team environment.
  • Ability, interest, and willingness to develop and maintain relationships with elementary, high school, and four‑year coaches to recruit, retain, and matriculate student‑athletes.
  • Willingness to work with students having a wide range of skills, motivations, athletic, academic, or vocational goals.
  • Ability to evaluate collegiate‑level athletic prospects.
  • Familiarity with current guidelines governing Intercollegiate Men’s and Women’s Track and Field (CCCAA, NCAA, USATF, etc.).
