Undergraduate Intern – Educational Life Coach

Under the supervision of the PARCS Community Services Supervisor, the City of Lancaster, in collaboration with the Pupil Safety and Attendance Department of the Lancaster School District, seeks a dynamic and enthusiastic Undergraduate Intern – Educational Life Coach to join the Community Service Division. This role will provide administrative, clerical, and specialized support on projects that focus on student success and community engagement.

The role combines internship learning opportunities with direct educational mentoring, empowering at-promise youth to improve attendance, academic performance, and personal growth through tailored mentorship, goal setting, and connection to resources. Support and monitor the implementation of Project Stride.

Examples of Duties

  • Provide one-on-one mentorship sessions to assist students in setting and achieving educational and personal goals.
  • Conduct intake interviews and need assessments to identify barriers to attendance and academic success.
  • Monitor student attendance, perform class checks (if applicable), and track engagement through observation.
  • Support case management of up to 25 students, documenting and tracking progress using performance metrics such as GPA, attendance, and behavior data.
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining reports to support program evaluation.
  • Conduct research and draft reports related to project and program needs.
  • Maintain knowledge of external support resources and assist with referrals as needed.
  • Conduct exit interviews to gather feedback from program participants.
  • Assist with brainstorming, project idea planning, and educational programming.
  • Perform general educational life coach program office support, including correspondence, scheduling, and light clerical duties.
  • Perform community outreach and represent the City at events, vendor booths, and informational sessions.
  • Attend required training to enhance skills and support strategies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university or within six months of graduating.
  • Associate's degree coursework or equivalent experience in education, social sciences, or related field preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including active listening.
  • Ability to organize, follow instructions, and handle multiple tasks effectively.
  • Dependable, punctual, and demonstrates good judgment.
  • Experience working with youth in educational or coaching roles is desirable.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
