The Health Information and EHR Systems Analyst program (HIER) is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to manage healthcare information and electronic health record (EHR) systems effectively. This program provides hands‑on training in EPIC, SQL, Tableau, and Crystal Reports, preparing students for real‑world challenges in clinical data management, system implementation, and reporting. Participants will also gain foundational knowledge to support healthcare IT systems, ensuring data accuracy, security, and compliance.
This program prepares students for the HIMSS CAHIMS certification, providing a strong pathway into health information technology and EHR specialist roles across healthcare settings.
Note:
This program consists of 3 phases:
- Online classroom training (approximately 18 weeks)
- Internship (approximately 11 weeks)
- Externship – in person/on‑site hand‑on training (approximately 10 weeks)
Participation in all components is required and requires a commitment of 40 hours per week during standard business hours. The entire program lasts approximately 39–44 weeks.
Eligibility- Applicants must be residents of California and live within 30–45 minutes of Lancaster, CA.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED certification.
- Must be a U.S. citizen/national or have a valid lawful permanent resident alien (not open to non‑citizens or visa holders).
- Must have proficient computer experience (MS Windows & MS Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to type ≥40 wpm.
- Great attention to detail and strict HIPAA compliance.
- Analytical and detail‑oriented.
- Able to learn in a self‑directed, fast‑paced, rapidly changing environment.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM. Includes a living stipend.
- Commitment: 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday, during regular business hours for the entire duration.
- Compensation: $31,200 stipend distributed over approximately 44 weeks; stipend payment on OCHIN’s semi‑monthly pay schedule.
- Benefits: Eligible for monthly benefits reimbursement up to $600 (participant cost only). Restrictions apply. Internet stipend $35/month for 44 weeks.
- Attendance Policy: No paid holidays or PTO; missed time must be made up.
- Learn to apply specialized health care and database management insights to analyze important clinical data, identify trends, and create targeted reports.
- Develop expertise in managing health information and EHR systems to support healthcare organizations.
- Apply data management skills using EPIC, SQL, Tableau, and Crystal Reports to analyze and report clinical data.
- Understand and implement system design, testing, and security protocols to ensure data privacy and compliance.
- Prepare for the HIMSS CAHIMS certification exam, focusing on healthcare IT, leadership, and system analysis.
- Support healthcare teams in optimizing operational workflows and improving patient outcomes through technology.
- Work newly identified duplicate/overlay cases using designated reports, work queues, email communications, and phone calls.
- Conduct detailed review of identified issues and document in logs and databases.
- Follow established procedures for combining cases, moving cases, adding known non‑duplicates.
- Communicate professionally with downstream and external users.
- Review and process information from inbound interfaces and Epic sub‑systems to ensure data integrity.
- Prepare reports for distribution and monitor completion.
- Provide support to healthcare staff for EPIC and other EHR systems by troubleshooting and resolving application issues.
- Maintain data integrity through error queue management and accurate reporting (lab, prescription, charge routing errors).
- Collaborate with clinical teams to enhance system efficiency and improve health information processes.
