Position: MIT Case Manager -11-045-SC/Antelope Valley Corps

Overview

Position Summary

The Program Manager is responsible for the MIT program, providing supportive services to families or individuals. MIT program is a partnership between the City of Lancaster and The Salvation Army to award grants for emergency or preventative services, limited to one-time use, to individuals and families at risk of homelessness.

Essential Functions
  • Screen and select participants, complete a thorough intake study and provide program orientation for each new client.
  • Provide case management sessions to include but not limited to the observation and assessment of clients' strengths, progress and problems, providing feedback and training in problem solving skills.
  • Implement progressive engagement policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with outside resources to work in a cooperative effort to provide services to clients.
  • Work and collaborate with The City of Lancaster.
  • Maintain thorough documentation files of all client information, service activities, accounting for the program and generate monthly progress report to the Corps Officer and The City of Lancaster.
  • Meet with Corps Officer as needed, attend The City of Lancaster trainings and other meetings that may be beneficial to the program.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of each client and staff unless otherwise mandated by law.
  • Work alongside the Corps Officer to create relationships with leaders of the community with the vision of bringing in resources.
  • Case Manager duties and responsibilities:
    Meet each participant and learn about their dynamics, communication style, and cultural factors.
  • Attentive to and work appropriately with culturally and socio-economically diverse client population.
  • Ask open ended and difficult/personal questions.
  • Utilize active listening and motivational interviewing with participants.
  • Provide support to participants in the field.
  • Acquire resources and make successful referrals, including effective follow-up to ensure the participant was able to access the resource.
  • Ensure that all services are documented (e.g. face to face, phone and collateral contacts) in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Work with The Salvation Army software programs and The City of Lancaster Job form software.
  • Perform janitorial duties as needed.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Corps Officer.
Special Requirement

Must have the ability to walk, run, lift, speak, and use one mental facility to make appropriate judgments in all areas that affect major life activity of families and individuals.

Working Conditions

Must be able to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Must be able to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. No sitting for longer than 45 minutes at a time and no standing longer than 30 minutes at a time without changing positions.

Pay

Rate

Pay rate: $22.00-$26.00/hr.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Services or a minimum of two years of experience working in a Social Services setting.
  • Valid California Driver's License required.
  • Understand and follow the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Receive clearance on criminal background check, child abuse index and drivers record.

  • Ability to work with diverse populations in a caring, sensitive, and non-judgmental manner.
  • Ability to maintain relationships with leaders of the community with the focus of bringing in resources.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to issues affecting families.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Social Services or a minimum of two years of experience working in a Social Services setting. (required)
