The mission statement- is to improve the health status and well-being of under-served segments of the population of Los Angeles Area through the direct provision or coordination of health care, health education, services, and research.
The mission is being accomplished through a variety of programs and activities, such as: medical outreach and referrals for medical care, HIV services and drug treatment; health education; psychosocial assessment and intervention; primary medical care; family planning services; and research.
Program
Description:
The Nutrition of Life Program (NOLP) is dedicated to serving individuals living with HIV. Eligibility requires residency in LA County and meeting specific low-income criteria. The program is funded by the LA County Department of HIV & STD Programs (DHSP) and operates in collaboration with APLA Health, the primary contractor for this nutritional support initiative.
Position
Purpose:
Guided by the program manager, the Food Pantry Volunteer is tasked with the upkeep, cleanliness, and restocking of the food pantry. Collaborating closely with the HIV Nutritional Support Program Assistant and JWCH employees, the volunteer contributes to the efficient execution of grocery distribution for each client at the food pantry.
Principal Responsibilities:
* Unload food deliveries, stock shelves, and efficiently distribute groceries to clients.
* Assist in the bagging of diverse food items, including produce, meat, dairy, and dry goods.
* Maintain accurate temperature logs for fridges and freezers.
* Ensure the food pantry and its equipment adhere to cleanliness standards and health code requirements set by the Los Angeles County Department of Health.
* Promote access to food and nutrition education services for individuals living with HIV through the distribution of food and personal hygiene items.
* Develop and maintain positive relationships with program employees and volunteers.
* Provide assistance with canopy and table setup when necessary.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
