Position: Research Analyst Short Term Hourly (Temporary)

Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Institutional Research and Planning, the incumbent performs higher‑level institutional research and evaluation duties, independently conducts assigned research related to assessment, evaluation, accountability, and institutional effectiveness, and assists the Director in managing office workload priorities.

Representative Duties
  • Independently performs research and evaluation duties related to institutional planning and research projects, including state‑mandated programs and activities.
  • Designs and performs research and evaluation of district accreditation, accountability, and other institutional research and planning projects, as well as a variety of other research projects to address internal and external issues as assigned.
  • Assists the Director with research office projects related to institutional effectiveness, collecting data for continual improvement.
  • Independently designs higher‑level research studies, including data collection, summarization, and statistical analysis to meet non‑routine project requests.
  • Provides data analysis and supporting information to district personnel and state agencies to fulfill compliance regulations and assure institutional effectiveness.
  • Analyzes performance and productivity data such as faculty workload, FTE, and student outcomes; prepares reports and projections to support decisions on workload, student success, facilities master plan, and impact.
  • Prepares reports and analyses of institutional, local, state, and national demographics, economic trends, and other data for research projects, reports, educational planning, and development.
  • Identifies, extracts, and validates requested data from sources such as student information systems, California Community College Chancellor’s Office Management Information System, California Employment Development Department, and US Census Bureau.
  • Analyses data and reports results on topics including course prerequisites, college program effectiveness, student equity, enrollment management, surveys, accreditation, and accountability.
  • Creates and maintains project documentation needed to replicate research projects.
  • Assists with dashboards and portals for extracting, merging, analyzing, and reporting data related to academic programs, curriculum, enrollment management, student demographics, and success.
  • Provides survey support, including survey design, student data extraction, campus‑wide administration, data analysis, and report writing.
  • Ensures data integrity through collaboration with campus staff on validation and procurement.
  • Creates dashboards for publication on the website and server, reviewing dashboards for accuracy.
  • Trains research office staff in projects, software tools, and related matters.
  • Exercises project responsibility through conceptual design to findings, preparing research in graphic, tabular, written, and oral formats for diverse audiences.
  • Stays informed of state and federal legislative actions affecting research and evaluates their impact on the college.
  • Communicates with college staff, stakeholders, and other districts in data analysis, compilation, and interpretation.
  • Assists the Director in responding to research questions and presenting results.
  • Assists the Director in disseminating research findings to the campus at meetings as assigned.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, social/educational research, educational administration, business administration, or a related field, and two years of increasingly responsible research and analysis experience.

    • OR Associate’s degree in a related field and four years of increasingly responsible research and analysis experience.
  • Knowledge of:

    • Standard and advanced statistical procedures, sampling, correlation analysis, parametric and non‑parametric statistics, projections, and quantitative measures applied to education and research.

    • SQL querying, data warehousing, data visualization, dashboard development, and statistical methods.
