Job SummaryUnder general supervision, this position acts as a subject matter expert for Mobile Technicians. The senior mobile technician is responsible for performing complex maintenance, service, and repair of J.B. Hunt trailers, containers, chassis, and power equipment at customer sites or rail yards using a mobile service truck. Technicians must be able to troubleshoot, diagnose, and complete all fleet maintenance processes while ensuring units meet J.B. Hunt’s specifications.
Key Responsibilities- Perform complex diagnostics, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance tasks including tire replacements/flat repairs, brake repairs, electrical diagnostics, and basic structural repairs on tractor and trailer equipment.
- Oversee recall campaigns and sign off on completion.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair ABS system and specialized equipment including refrigerated units, lift gates, and frame alignment.
- Onboard and mentor new technician trainees; act as team lead to coordinate shift support and tasks.
- Follow all safety requirements while at a customer or rail yard.
- Professionally operate the assigned service truck and attend to service truck parts inventory according to company requirements.
- Accurately complete work orders and other written materials according to established procedures.
- Document damage to company equipment to estimate repair costs.
- Use cutting torch and welding equipment to perform mid‑level repairs on chassis, frames, and other equipment.
- Patch holes in trailer/container side panels and roofs, ensuring all holes are sealed and water‑tight.
- Perform annual AA Trailer and FHWA Brake Inspections and sign off.
- Shifts may vary based on location and business needs.
- Age 18 for equipment up to 10,000 lbs or age 21 for equipment over 10,000 lbs, with at least 3 years of experience in semi‑tractor or semi‑trailer maintenance and repair (or equivalent education/experience). Must demonstrate: clean motor vehicle record, ability to provide own basic tools or purchase via toolbox program, willingness to work outdoors, ability to work multiple shifts—including nights and/or weekends—and DOT certification in FHWA inspections and air brakes.
- High school diploma or GED with at least 3 years of experience in semi‑tractor or semi‑trailer maintenance and repair (or equivalent). Welding certification, forklift certification and experience, EPA Section
608 certification, and refrigeration license. - Effective communication skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, teamwork and independent work capabilities.
- Proficient computer skills and comfort using Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
- Physical ability to lift/move equipment up to 50 pounds and wear appropriate protective gear/PPE.

CompensationStarting pay ranges from $29.18 to $43.77 per hour. Compensation factors include skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications. Eligible for annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes in accordance with company plans.
RelocationRelocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates located outside a 50‑mile radius. This position is not eligible for employment‑based sponsorship.
