Engineering Technician I:
To perform basic technical engineering duties for a highway district.

Engineering Technician II:
To perform technical engineering duties for a highway district including permit review, construction inspection, design, survey and specification development for materials and equipment.

Engineering Technician III:
To perform and assist in supervising technical engineering duties for a highway district including permit review, construction inspection, design, survey and specification development for materials and equipment.

Engineering Technician I*: $15.93/hour - $20.80/hour

Engineering Technician II: $17.81/hour - $23.39/hour

Engineering Technician III: $19.96/hour - $26.41/hour

* Candidates hired at a Trainee Status must meet minimum education/experience qualifications within one (1) year of hire date

Trainee Status pay: $15.31 per hour

Engineering Technician I:

• Education:
  
  High School diploma or high school equivalency credential
• Experience:
  
  Two years of experience as an Engineering Aide, one year of which shall have been at a level equivalent to Engineering Aide II.
• License/Certification:
  Valid driver's license
• Other Requirements:
  Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the hiring agency
• Trainee Option:
  Candidates with an equivalent combination of 1+ years of relevant education and experience after completion of high school may be considered and hired in ‘trainee status’ for this position.

Engineering Technician II:

• Education:
  
  High school diploma or high school equivalency credential.
• Experience:
  
  Three years of experience as an Engineering Aide or Engineering Technician, at least one year of which shall have been at a level equivalent to Engineering Technician I.
• License/Certification:
  Valid driver's license.
• Other Requirements:
  Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the hiring agency.
• Trainee Option:
  Not applicable

Engineering Technician III:

• Education:
  
  Associate's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering, landscape architecture, forestry, horticulture, environmental studies, agronomy, geology, soil science or earth science. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
• Experience:
  
  Three years of experience as an Engineering Aide or Technician, two years of which shall have been at a level equivalent to Engineering Technician II. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
• License/Certification:
  Valid driver's license.
• Other Requirements:
  Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the hiring agency.

Engineering Technician I:

• Assists in the technical permitting review and prepares related correspondence and communications for various Department programs.
• Assists in researching highway plans and related legal documents to provide data to internal and external customers.
• Assists in the technical review for driveway, utility and district construction projects.
• Researches pre-construction technical data including survey, right of way, estimates, engineering drawings, materials list and specifications to enable the construction/reconstruction of State highways and maintenance facilities.
