Admissions Counselor
The University of South Carolina (USC) is seeking an Admissions Counselor to manage daily processing of prospective student applications and support international admissions for USC Lancaster.
Job SummaryResponsible for entering applications into the student information management system, evaluating transcripts, determining residency status, and communicating admissions decisions. Acts as the liaison for international students and collaborates with the USC International Student and Scholar Support (ISSS) and faculty advisors.
Responsibilities- Enter all new student applications into the system.
- Determine residency status according to state regulations.
- Evaluate secondary and post-secondary academic transcripts based on university criteria.
- Create, maintain, and organize student records using imaging and information systems.
- Determine and communicate admissions decisions and next steps to prospective students.
- Provide excellent customer service throughout the admissions process.
- Accurately follow application guidelines and state education regulations.
- Act as primary application processor for international students.
- Attend training to stay current on international admissions requirements.
- Evaluate international student credentials and collaborate with ISSS and advisors.
- Conduct counseling for students, families, and school counselors on admissions procedures.
- Generate correspondence for student requests and requests for assistance.
- Participate in professional associations (e.g., CACRAO) and pursue continuous improvement.
- Train new staff in application processing and serve on university committees as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and experience.
- Experience working in a college setting with familiarity with undergraduate admissions processes.
- Experience with international student admissions.
- Familiarity with student services, student information systems (Banner preferred), and CRM software (Salesforce or Slate preferred).
- Excellent interpersonal, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong oral and written communication abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with multiple priorities.
- Sound judgment and decision‑making abilities.
- Basic computer skills.
- Willingness to attend training workshops and webinars.
