Ohio University's Regional Campuses are located in the following cities in the State of Ohio:
Chillicothe;
Eastern (St. Clairsville, OH), Lancaster, Southern (Ironton, OH), and Zanesville. We are accepting applicants for a potential adjunct faculty opening in Physics, Physical Sciences and Astronomy for Fall semester 2026 in Lancaster. The need for these positions is undetermined at this time and is dependent on operational needs including enrollment and staffing. If a need arises, the department will select candidates from this posting.

Job Description
- Ohio University Regional Campuses are seeking a part-time instructor to teach a variety of in-person Physics, Physical Sciences and Astronomy courses at the undergraduate level at the Lancaster campus. Specific course needs are:

  • ASTR
    1000:
    Survey of Astronomy General introduction to astronomy, with emphasis on the structure of the universe beyond our solar system. Topics include historical astronomy, the sun, stars, galaxies, interstellar matter, black holes, the "Big Bang" theory, and the evolution of the universe. No pre-req, but familiarity with basic algebra and geometry is beneficial.
  • PSC
    1010:
    The Physical World Designed for nonscience majors. An exploration of fundamental ideas of the physical world, including fundamental ideas of measurement, motion, energy, electricity and magnetism, and other topics.
  • PHYS
    2001:
    Introduction to Physics First course in physics; open to students from all areas. Students should have a background in algebra, trigonometry and geometry, but no calculus required. Recommended for students in liberal arts, architecture, industrial technology, geological sciences, and premedicine. Mechanics of solids and liquids, oscillations, heat, thermodynamics.

Positions will include teaching from 3 credit hours to up to 11 credit hours per term. This is a part-time position eligible for sick leave and retirement benefits.

Minimum Qualifications
- PhD in Physics or related field; relevant teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications
- Ten or more years of experience as an instructor at the university level
