Environmental Engineer, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
What You’ll Do
Pay ranges from approximately $59,000 to $85,000. Starting pay will be based on qualifications, education, experience, and location.
Required Certification:
Class II Water.
Must meet requirement of OAC 3745-7-15 pertaining to OEPA Director approved contact hour required to renew certification.
Works under general direction and requires advanced level knowledge of state and federal guidelines regarding water plant operations.
- Serves as assistant to treatment plant operation manager.
- Coordinates operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment (e.g., motors and controls, pumps and controls, blowers and controls, comminutors, air compressors, chemical feeders) used at water treatment plant.
- Trains maintenance staff and/or operators in proper operation and maintenance procedures.
- Inspects facilities and coordinates purchase of chemicals and parts.
- Troubleshoots, repairs and adjusts equipment.
- Reviews preventive maintenance programs.
- Inspects newly installed equipment.
- Instructs facility staff in chemical testing procedures and daily reporting preparation procedures.
- Reviews design drawings and specification for contract work.
- Meets with consultants to resolve construction or installation problems.
- Oversees and/or performs general maintenance at water treatment facility (e.g., tills seed beds, mows grass, paints buildings, plows snow).
- Performs operational modifications necessary in emergencies to meet EPA requirements.
- Attends annual training, meetings and/or serves on committees.
Certificate of class at least equal to that required by water system or wastewater works classification pursuant to Rule 3745-7-02, Environmental Protection Agency; 12 months experience as treatment plant operator in water and/or sewage treatment plant which included conducting routine laboratory tests on treatment plant flows; 6 months training or 6 months experience in employee training & development; valid driver’s license.
