The Med Surg Registered Nurse delivers comprehensive high-quality, patient-centered care in medical-surgical and telemetry units. This role involves assessing patient health conditions, monitoring cardiac telemetry data, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to manage diverse patient needs.
Essential Work Functions- Explain procedures and treatments to patients and families.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments in adherence to nursing standards.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments, document changes, and report concerns.
- Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures and assist physicians.
- Maintain a safe and comfortable environment for patients.
- Document patient information, including vital signs, medications, and care outcomes.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to create and implement individualized care plans.
- Manage multiple patients efficiently, prioritizing care based on acuity.
- Ensure infection control practices are strictly followed.
- Advocate for patients’ needs and preferences.
- Facilitate discharge planning and coordinate with patients, families, and external resources.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice.
- Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards.
- One year of recent Med Surg RN experience.
- Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations.
- Current BLS (AHA/ARC) Certification.
- NIHSS certification.
- ACLS (AHA/ARC) certification.
- Other certifications and licenses may be required for this position.
- Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
- Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills.
- Physical abilities: remain in a stationary position, move equipment (50‑100 lbs), push, pull, and bend.
- Interpersonal skills: work effectively with professionals and ancillary staff.
- Technical/motor skills: fine manipulation, propelling equipment during procedures.
- Mental requirements: cope with frequent contact with the public and customers under pressure, work under close supervision occasionally, handle irregular schedules, maintain concentration to detail.
- Sensory: possess visual acuity and effectively communicate.
