Security Specialist

Starting hourly rate: $18.75 USD per hour. Pay range: $18.75 USD – $28.15 USD per hour.

Asset Protection (AP) teams keep guests, staff, and brand secure and lead through crisis events. They protect profitable sales by mitigating shortage risks, preventing, and resolving theft and fraud to ensure product is available for the guest. They also build relationships inside and outside Target, including store leaders, public safety officials, and law enforcement.

The role of a Target Security Specialist offers experience and skills in intelligence‑led tactics, crisis response, safety and crowd management, de‑escalation, physical security controls, and Target’s video surveillance system.

Key responsibilities include:

• Using intelligence‑led tactics to keep team members and guests safe and secure.
• Crisis response, safety and crowd management; providing support to guests and team members.
• De‑escalation and use of physical security controls.
• Using Target’s video surveillance system.
• Timely and accurate documentation of cases using case management systems.

Typical daily responsibilities include:

• Create an easy, inspiring and friendly guest experience.
• Greet guests warmly, make eye contact, and assist with locating products.
• Assist guests with resolving issues to ensure a smooth shopping experience.
• End every guest transaction with a sincere thank you.
• Support team efforts and assist peers while maintaining a positive attitude.
• Adjust to business and guest needs to deliver exceptional service.
• Promote a physical security culture and maintain store safety standards.
• Respond to and document security incidents promptly.
• Apply de‑escalation tactics in security incidents.
• Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide apprehension support.
• Prevent theft and shortage by performing receipt checks and recognizing trends.
• Use Target’s video surveillance system appropriately.
• Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety, and compliance.
• Work safely at all times; comply with safety policies and correct hazards where possible.
• Perform other duties as required by business needs.

• Open to a flexible work schedule with varying hours, nights, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping times.

• Be at least 18 years old.
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Meet state or local licensure and other legal requirements.
• Show a welcoming and helpful attitude toward all guests and team members.
• Communicate on multiple frequency devices, operate handheld scanners and technology.
• Have effective communication skills.
• Work both independently and with a team.
• Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
• Remain focused and composed in a fast‑paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established time frames.

• Climb up and down ladders.
• Apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy.
• Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently, lifting up to 40 pounds without assistance.
• Maintain a flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends, holidays), arrive when scheduled, and take required meal and rest breaks.
• Be able to work in and be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain duties.
• Remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift.
