Description:
Claypool Electric, Inc., in partnership with ABC of Northern Ohio, sponsors an in house Electrical Apprenticeship Program in our classroom at our Lancaster headquarters. Our program is approved by the Department of Labor and the State of Ohio Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, and are an NCCER accredited training site. Electrical Apprenticeships are a four-year program that provides the requirements to become a journey level electricians in the State of Ohio.
These requirements include 576 hours of classroom experience and 8,000 hours of on the job training. During the four years of apprenticeship training you learn all aspects of commercial and industrial electrical work while building experience and earning a paycheck! Upon completion of the requirements a state of Ohio Journey Level Certification is awarded.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Shown are duties intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Plans layout, installs, and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment:
Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes. Installs system components and wiring in compliance with the NEC and NFPA. Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring.
Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit, using tools, such as hacksaw, pipe threader, and conduit bender. Pulls wiring through conduit. Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, using knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps. Connects wiring to control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels, fastening in place with screws or bolts, using hand tools and power tools.
Connects power cables to equipment, such as electric range or motor, and installs grounding leads. Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components, using testing instruments, such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscope. May be required to hold licenses. Ensures accuracy and completion of assigned tasks and projects. Performs other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE and
SKILLS:
* Knowledge of installing, repairing and operating building electrical and emergency power generation
systems.
* Knowledge of operating, troubleshooting and maintaining electrical systems of various applications.
* Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC).
* Knowledge of local and national regulatory electrical codes and requirements.
* Knowledge of safety procedures for the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems.
* Knowledge of safety precautions when operating motorized vehicles, equipment and hand tools.
* Skill in installing, troubleshooting and maintaining electrical and emergency power generation
systems.
* Skill in reading and evaluating electrical blueprints, panel layout sheets and other technical schematics.
* Skill in using analytical and research skills to define and solve problems.
* Skill in operating motorized vehicles, equipment and hand tools.
* Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with others.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A high school diploma or GED equivalent, AND acceptance into apprenticeship school.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Will be required to work outside the traditional work schedule. Basic English language, math, reading and writing skills are required. May be called out to work off-shift or in emergency situations. This position requires frequent exposure to hazardous work environments and working near high voltage, hazardous machinery, equipment and materials. Requires frequent travel to the jobsite and a valid driver's license.
Apprentices must be currently enrolled as a Claypool Electric Apprentice. Failure to complete your program may result in termination.
MINIMUM
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The following demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to lift heavy objects. This position requires frequent standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing ladders and working in cramped spaces. May be exposed to inclimate weather.
