Part-Time Betsy Ross House Guest Services and Events Supervisor Job Description

Historic Philadelphia, Inc. is dedicated to enhancing the visitor experience and strengthening Philadelphia’s tourism industry through engaging interpretation and meaningful interaction. Our goal is to make our nation’s history relevant, accessible, and real. Historic Philadelphia, Inc. operates the Betsy Ross House, Franklin Square, and Once Upon A Nation.

Position Overview

The Betsy Ross House is one of Philadelphia’s most visited historic attractions, welcoming approximately 150,000 visitors each year. The Betsy Ross House Guest Services and Events Supervisor plays a key role in ensuring an exceptional experience for every visitor while supporting the daily operations of this historic site.

The Guest Services and Events Supervisor works with the Guest Services Manager and another Supervisor to lead the Guest Services and Guide teams, serves as a positive role model, and helps maintain the highest standards of safety, hospitality, cleanliness, professionalism, and presentation
.

This position requires a commitment to providing outstanding customer service. An interest in history is a plus. Candidates must have the flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings
, with availability for shifts ranging from early morning to late evening.

This is a part-time position, guaranteed 24 hours per week, with the possibility of more hours during times of peak visitation (April-August) and for special programs and events.

Key Responsibilities Guest Experience & Site Operations
  • Provide exceptional guest service by Being Ready, offering Heartfelt Hellos and Fond Farewells, Being Proactive, and Knowing the Answer
    .
  • Maintain a welcoming, professional image of Historic Philadelphia by keeping the Betsy Ross House neat, clean, safe, and orderly
    .
  • Monitor visitor flow and crowd control, particularly during periods of high visitation and large-group arrivals.
  • Sell tickets for the Betsy Ross House and other Historic Philadelphia attractions and tours.
  • Assist guests with directions and information about transportation, restaurants, and other popular Philadelphia attractions.
  • Assign special tasks and identify opportunities to support site operations during slower period.
Staff Supervision & Development
  • Assist in supervising, training, and supporting Guest Services Associates and Guides.
  • Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and recognition to encourage strong performance and professional growth.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and guest-focused team environment.
Cash Management & Reporting
  • Follow all cash-handling and cash-management policies and procedures.
  • Open and close the daily register, prepare bank deposits, and accurately complete nightly reports.
  • Track attendance and revenue goals and encourage staff to meet these goals.
Special Events & Rentals
  • Supervise special events and site rentals, including the coordination and setup of tents, rentals, catering, and other event-related needs.
  • Ensure the safety and security of visitors, staff, the historic property, and collections during events and rentals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
  • Enthusiasm for engaging with visitors.
  • Ability to provide consistently high-quality customer service in a busy, public-facing environment.
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and maintain professional relationships with colleagues, visitors, vendors, and community partners.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to pivot and solve problems
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Experience working with Altru is a plus.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
    .
  • Ability to work shifts beginning as early as 8:00 a.m. and ending as late as 12:00 a.m., depending on operational and event needs.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while balancing multiple responsibilities and priorities.
