Music Teacher, Elementary School

Essential Functions

• Plans and delivers age-appropriate music lessons aligned with curriculum standards.
• Teaches music theory, vocal techniques and rhythm.
• Lead group singing, movement activities and rhythm exercises.
• Organize and direct elementary school music performances such as concerts and musical programs.
• Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation and creativity.
• Prepares, administers, and grades tests and assignments in order to evaluate students’ progress.
• Communicates with parents and guardians to discuss their children’s progress.
• Collaborates with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of the elementary music school program.
• Attends professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.

• Teaching Certification
• Bachelor’s Degree in Music (Music Education strongly preferred)
• Strong Musical Ability (voice, piano)
• Passion for working with young children and fostering their artistic development
• Three years’ experience at an appropriate grade or age level
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with students, parents and colleagues
• Demonstrated organizational skills

• Works in a fast paced environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
• Works primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment
