Substitute Teacher Service, (STS) is looking for PA Retired Teachers to serve as daily substitute teachers on an as needed basis. We know that seasoned educators bring a wealth of knowledge and teaching experience to the classroom. Your experience would be a welcomed addition to our educational workforce!
Working with STS, no matter how many days you work, it will not affect your current pension benefits!
You may also be eligible for unemployment compensation during the summer months, as well as offering direct deposit and an online system for managing your job schedule and accepting work assignments.
Position SummaryA substitute teacher is an individual who, in the absence of the classroom teacher, is responsible for providing instruction and managing the learning environment. The substitute teacher reports to the principal or designee at the location to which they are assigned.
Job DutiesDay to day job duties of a substitute teacher are determined by the classroom teacher or his/her designee, as they may vary depending upon the changing needs of the classroom(s), student(s), and/or school district. Substitute teachers of any capacity are subject to daily reassignment, depending on the needs of the day. The substitute teacher must comply with the duties outlined by the classroom teacher, principal or designee.
Qualificationsand Required Documents
- A valid Pennsylvania Teaching Certification or PA Emergency Certification
- A Pennsylvania Criminal Records check (Act 34) that is clean and less than 5 years old
- A Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance History (Act 151) that is clean and less than 5 years old
- A FBI Criminal History Record that is clean and less than 5 years old

Substitute teaching is an essential part of the educational process. Each school year all district’s will look to build a workforce of substitute teachers to help aide their teachers and allow them to be replaced in times of need for the district. Each school district will rely on a qualified and enthusiastic group of sub’s that can step-up and continue the educational process in the absence of a teacher.
It’s essential that the substitute teacher continues the primary teacher’s lesson plan so that the curriculum plan at hand continues to be carried out.
