Field Service Engineer

Location:

Greater Philadelphia / West Chester / Lancaster / Harrisburg, PA.

The Field Service Engineer manages the customer support system for the installation, service, and repair of all products supported by DePuy Synthes. The role includes fieldwork, technical support, and customer communication to ensure high levels of service and satisfaction.

• Perform technical support through the Customer Support Call Center.
• Manage account schedules and perform installation, operation, repair, and upgrades of equipment within assigned territory.
• Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs; maintain performance and service records.
• Facilitate all technical/engineering work required to support products serviced by the technical department.
• Respond to customer emergency service requests; diagnose causes, troubleshoot, and take corrective action.
• Provide guidance to doctors, nurses, hospital biomedical engineers, and field service specialists; assist in resolving satisfaction issues.
• Manage customer expectations before and after interactions to ensure satisfaction.
• Complete paperwork, documentation, and administrative tasks per policy and procedures.
• Update Service Management System with work orders and related information.
• Process RMA returns to support parts and equipment usage.
• Manage allocated inventory and complete required audits.
• Complete required training for supported products and processes.
• Act as customer advocate to represent needs internally.
• Participate in incident investigations and related safety matters.
• Support installation and support of products in clinical trials, external evaluations, regulatory testing, or similar.
• Communicate business‑related issues or opportunities to management.
• Ensure personal and company compliance with federal, state, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Adhere to J&J environmental and safety policies; report violations, deviations, or hazards.
• Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety devices as required.
• Operate company vehicle with appropriate license.
• Work weekends and off hours as needed to support customers and business needs.
• Perform physical duties including lifting equipment, standing, bending, and similar tasks.
• Follow safety rules and procedures at all times.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Ability to use standard test equipment, including a digital multimeter.
• Hybrid office/field environment capability (≈25% office / 75% field).
• Availability to travel on short notice, including frequent air travel.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle.
• Flexibility to work weekends and off‑hours as needed.
• Ability to perform physical duties, including lifting equipment, prolonged standing, bending.
• Commitment to safety rules, PPE usage, and incident investigations.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license.

• Academic qualification in engineering or equivalent experience.
• Experience in the medical device industry.
• Knowledge of servicing principles, practices, and procedures.
• IT integration skills.

• Position is overtime eligible.
• Eligible for a company car through the fleet program.
